The Starfleet Recon is a Federation Interceptor hostile that spawns from level 60 to 71 in Federation space. In-game it appears in two forms with the same stats and drops: the regular Starfleet Recon in normal systems, and a hazard-zone version the game tags “Starfleet Recon HAZ” that spawns in deeper systems at the higher levels. This guide covers both. It only appears as an Interceptor, so the ship you want against it is an Explorer. Killing one drops rare 6-star ship parts along with Romulan and Klingonisch reputation, while attacking it costs you Federation standing. Match its warp range of 900 to 1525, bring an Explorer with a damage crew, and it goes down cleanly.
How to beat the Starfleet Recon
The Starfleet Recon only ever spawns as an Interceptor, so you never have to juggle ship types between levels. In the STFC combat triangle, Explorers beat Interceptors, so an Explorer already holds the advantage against every Recon you meet. There is no second hull variant to plan around, which makes this one of the simpler high-level hostiles to set up for.
For crew, lead with a captain that raises your weapon damage against hostiles, then fill the other seats with Offiziere that add damage or mitigation. Any strong Explorer damage lineup works here. The best picks move with each update, so check the current Officer Tier List instead of locking into one crew, and treat any single recommendation as a starting point because crews shift with the meta.
Watch its ship ability, Plausible Deniability: it recovers a share of the ship’s total shield HP for the first five rounds of combat, scaling with level: 10% at levels 60 to 62, 15% at 63 to 65, and 20% from 66 up. The Recon keeps topping up its shields early, so a slow grind gives it time to heal. Bring enough sustained damage to punch through faster than it repairs and the ability stops mattering after those opening rounds.
Where to find the Starfleet Recon
Lower-level Recons, levels 60 to 64, cluster in Federation systems at warp 900. As the level climbs the spawns move deeper into space and the warp cost rises, topping out at Zaltania at warp 1525. Set your warp to match the level you want and pick a system from the table below.

Rewards and what it drops
The Starfleet Recon pays out in rare ship-part materials and faction reputation. Because it flies under a Federation banner, hitting it swings your standing: you gain Romulan and Klingon reputation but lose Federation reputation, so farm it only if you are comfortable with that trade. Ship XP scales steeply with level, from 16,000 at level 60 up to 57,000 at level 71, which makes a high-level Recon a solid target for leveling a fresh hull.
| Ablegen | What it is |
|---|---|
| 6★ Broken Interceptor Parts | A high-tier ship-part material used to build and upgrade Interceptors. |
| 6★ Broken Survey Parts | A high-tier ship-part material used for Vermessungsschiffe. |
| Romulan Points | Romulan faction reputation, gained on each kill. |
| Klingon Points | Klingonenfraktion reputation, gained on each kill. |
| Federation Points | Föderationsfraktion reputation, which you lose for attacking a Federation target. |
Starfleet Recon stats
Stats vary little by hull here since the Recon has only one variant, but they climb steeply with level. The anchors below show the low, mid, and high ends of the range.

Starfleet Recon in Star Trek
Starfleet is the exploratory, scientific, and defensive service of the United Federation of Planets. Founded in the 22nd century and headquartered in San Francisco on Earth, it crews the Federation’s starships on Missionen of deep-space exploration, diplomacy, and defense. Its officers train at Starfleet Akademie and operate under a charter that stresses peaceful contact and the study of new worlds, with force treated as a last resort. A recon vessel fits that role neatly: a fast, lightly armed scout sent ahead to gather intelligence rather than to hold a battle line. In the Federation, Romulan, and Klingon frictions that color this stretch of the game, such patrols probe contested space and report back.
Is the Starfleet Recon worth grinding?
It earns its place if you need 6-star ship parts, want Romulan and Klingon reputation at high warp, or are leveling a new hull on its steep ship XP. The cost is the Federation reputation you give up on every kill, so skip it if you are actively building Federation standing. When you do run it, match your warp to the level you want and bring an Explorer to keep the combat-triangle edge in your favor.
