[PRO] Romulan Mines is an Epic Forbidden Tech in Star Trek Fleet Command built for one job: winning Interceptor fights against other players. It stacks a large Apex Barrier, chips away at the enemy’s Apex Barrier with Apex Shred, cuts their Shield Mitigation a little more every round, and pushes Interceptor Critical Damage to punishing levels. This is a specialist PvP piece, so it earns its slot only on a player who lives in Interceptor combat.

What [PRO] Romulan Mines does

All four buffs are Interceptor-only and read “against players,” so nothing here helps you against hostiles, armadas, or in mining. The Apex Barrier buff is live from the first tier and adds a big protective layer to your Interceptor. As you tier the piece up it turns on three more effects that grind down the enemy: Apex Shred to strip their Apex Barrier, a per-round Shield Mitigation reduction that stacks as the fight drags on, and a heavy Critical Damage boost.

Buff Unlocks at tier Unlock value Max value
Increases Interceptor Apex Barrier against players 1 500 40,000
Increases Interceptor Apex Shred against players 3 3% 50%
Decreases opponent’s Shield Mitigation each round (cumulative) 6 1% 25%
Increases Interceptor Critical Damage against players 8 40% 500%

Values are current as of the latest game data and scale with the item’s level between the unlock and max figures. Two conditions are worth knowing before you rely on it. The Apex Barrier buff switches off if you assign Tal to the bridge, so this piece and that captain do not mix. The Shield Mitigation reduction does not apply during station combat, which keeps it a ship-to-ship PvP tool rather than a base-hitting one. Because that reduction is cumulative, it rewards longer fights: the more rounds you trade, the more of the enemy’s mitigation you peel away.

How to get [PRO] Romulan Mines

Romulan Mines unlocks through the Forbidden Tech refinery. As an Epic piece it draws on Epic Forbidden Fragments, which you earn from the game’s Forbidden Tech activities and special rewards. You also need Forbidden Tech Fusion Rods, which open the Forbidden Tech slots on your ship and let you pull a piece back off later. Once the mines are unlocked, tiering and leveling them run on their own Prototype Tech materials rather than the standard Forbidden Tech pool.

Upgrading [PRO] Romulan Mines

Forbidden Tech improves along two tracks. Tiering up raises the level cap and switches on the later buffs at tiers 3, 6, and 8, while leveling up scales each active buff toward its maximum. Upgrades are attempts rather than guaranteed buys: they draw on Forbidden Tech Reactors, and Probability Devices raise the odds of a successful upgrade.

Ebene Level cap Kosten
1 5 Starting tier
7 35 4,000 Rare Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst
12 60 4,125 Epic Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst

Reaching tier 12 costs 24,800 Rare and 9,075 Epic Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalysts in total. Taking the mines from level 2 to their level 60 cap costs 815,050 Epic and 368,000 Rare Prototype Tech Protomatter. That is a heavy Epic investment, so treat the tier gates as your milestones: tier 3 adds Apex Shred, tier 6 adds the Shield Mitigation reduction, and tier 8 adds the Critical Damage buff that gives the piece its bite.

Best ships and uses for [PRO] Romulan Mines

Put Romulan Mines on the Interceptor you take into player combat, and nowhere else. Every buff is locked to the Interceptor hull and to fights against players, so it does nothing on Explorers, Battleships, or survey ships, and nothing against hostiles or armadas. On a dedicated PvP Interceptor it does two things at once: the Apex Barrier keeps you alive while Apex Shred, the crit boost, and the round-by-round Shield Mitigation cut wear the other player down. It suits players who defend or raid in Interceptor-heavy formations and want an edge in drawn-out duels. Keep Tal off that ship’s bridge so the Apex Barrier buff stays active.

[PRO] Romulan Mines in Star Trek

The Romulan Star Empire built its reputation on secrecy and hard borders, from the Neutral Zone standoffs of the original series to the cloak-and-dagger politics of The Next Generation and the Scimitar’s debut in Nemesis. Romulan doctrine has always leaned on cloaking technology and layered defenses to keep outsiders from ever seeing what lies inside the Empire. The mine itself is a game concept rather than a device from any single episode. The flavor casts it as a cloaked, tricobalt-filled sphere that hides from sensors, latches onto an enemy hull on contact, and detonates in a thermokinetic blast, a fitting way to guard borders that Romulans would rather no one crossed.

Is [PRO] Romulan Mines worth it?

Only if Interceptor PvP is your game. This is an Epic piece with a steep Prototype Tech bill, and every buff is wasted on PvE, mining, or non-Interceptor ships. For a player who fights other captains in Interceptors, though, the payoff is real: a big survivability layer plus mounting pressure on the enemy’s defenses over a long fight. Chase it if that describes you, aim for tier 8 to unlock the Critical Damage buff, then level it as your materials allow. Everyone else can skip it.
