Middle Grounds is a level 48 Klingon territory mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, picked up in Nalla. You resolve a dispute over a mining field between two colonies, which takes you back and forth between Rixos and Toh’Kaht and ends with a fight against a thief at over 8 million strength. It needs warp 160 both to pick up and to complete. The reward is 90 4★ Ungewöhnlich Refined Crystal, 700 Klingon Credits and a large Klingon Points gain, paid for with big Federation and Romulan losses.
Middle Grounds objectives
There are six objectives across two systems, and no choice split:
- Investigate the dispute. Location: Rixos.
- Speak with the other colony. Location: Rixos.
- Return to Weth. Location: Rixos.
- Examine the mining field. Location: Toh'Kaht.
- Defeat the thief. Location: Toh’Kaht. Enemy strength is roughly 8,177,045.
- Return to Weth. Location: Rixos.
The first half is all talk. In Rixos you look into the dispute, hear from the other colony and report back to Weth. The second half moves to Toh’Kaht, where examining the mining field turns up the thief behind the trouble. Once the thief is beaten you return to Weth in Rixos to close the mission.

Middle Grounds is picked up in Nalla. It needs warp 160 to start and warp 160 to complete, so the range that gets you to Nalla is enough for the whole route through Rixos and Toh’Kaht. The recommended level is 48.
The route runs Nalla, Rixos, Toh’Kaht and back to Rixos, so you pass through Rixos twice.

The two negative lines are part of the reward. Finishing Middle Grounds costs you 300,000 Federation Points and 1,350,000 Romulan Points, while adding 775,000 Klingon Points. The current game Daten shows no follow-up mission unlocked by Middle Grounds itself.
Tips
Bring your strongest combat ship for Toh’Kaht. The thief at roughly 8,177,045 strength is the only fight, but it is a big one for a level 48 mission, and it sits between you and the reward.
Check the faction swing before you accept. A Romulan loss of 1,350,000 Points is larger than the Klingon gain, so if you rely on Romulan standing this mission is expensive. For a player committed to the Klingons, the 775,000 Klingon Points and 700 Klingon Credits are the point.
Go to Toh’Kaht ready to fight. Examining the mining field and defeating the thief are back to back in the same system, so there is no separate scouting trip before the combat step.
The 90 4★ Uncommon Refined Crystal is the material reward. It is a useful chunk of refined crystal for anyone saving toward 4★ upgrades.
