Between the level 41 and level 45 Veteran steps, the captain grows from about 1.1 million strength to nearly 5.9 million. The level 46 captain is actually slightly weaker, and pays more, so if you can clear 45 you can clear 46.
The level 45 set
The Rookie step at this level asks for three level 45 hostiles and pays 10,200,000 Dilithium and five Gorkon shards. The Veteran step nearly doubles that Dilithium and swaps the Gorkon shards for Kirk shards, with fourteen days of speed ups and 2,100 Ultra Recruit Tokens added on top.
Tips
Go in at full health with your best combat crew. There is only one fight, and losing it costs a repair and another attempt.
Save the fourteen 1 Day Speed Ups for the long late-game builds. Two weeks of timer reduction is the most flexible part of this reward.
