The Benefit of Hindsight is a level 51 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you help Starfleet investigate anomalous readings. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 185 to complete, with stops in Rylan and Beine. There is no fight and nothing to donate. The reward is 500 Premium Recruit Tokens, 3,000,000 Dilithium and 2,500 Ship XP, and it unlocks the next mission, Contact Zero. It is a travel mission with a useful payout of recruit tokens.
The Benefit of Hindsight objectives
The story line reads: help Starfleet investigate anomalous readings. There are three objectives and no choice split:
- Investigate the anomalous readings. Location: Rylan.
- Investigate the strange signatures. Location: Beine.
- Scan the planet. Location: Beine.
You start with the readings in Rylan, follow the strange signatures to Beine, and finish by scanning the planet there. No hostile is listed at any step.
Wo und welcher Warp
The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 185 to complete. Rylan is a Föderation system, and Beine is where the mission ends.
The recommended level is 51. With no combat, the warp 185 range is the practical requirement.

Where it sits in the story
Die Mission davor ist Jenseits der Horizonte, also level 51. It needs warp 56 to complete and pays a Data officer shard and 40,500,000 Tritanium. The Benefit of Hindsight is a much longer trip, warp 185 against warp 56, and pays recruit tokens and Dilithium instead.
Contact Zero, the next mission, keeps the same warp 185 finish, so once your ship can make this run it can carry on.
Taken together, the two Missionen give you a Data shard, 40.5 million Tritanium, 500 recruit tokens and 3 million Dilithium, all at level 51.
Tips
Send any ship with warp 185. There is nothing to fight, so combat stats do not matter here, and your main combat ship can stay free.
The 500 Premium Recruit Tokens are the most distinctive part of the reward. Use them on officer recruitment when you want to add to your roster.
The 3,000,000 Dilithium is a solid top-up at level 51, and the 2,500 Ship XP is a small extra. Other missions by level are on the Missionsleitfaden.
