Changing Gears is a five-part mission chain about Weaver, a researcher whose experimental warp core research draws Nausicaan raiders working for a crime boss named Da Silva. Parts 1 to 3 are recommended for level 57 and Parts 4 and 5 for level 58. You pick the chain up in Garyf at warp 400, and the parts need warp 400 to 500 to complete. Every part gives one William T. Riker shard, so the full chain is worth 5 of them, along with Federation Credits, Federation Points and a negative Klingon Points value. The fights are light; the Dilithium mining in Part 4 is the slow step.

Part 1 needs warp 400 to pick up in Garyf. Later parts start at warp 1, and completing one part opens the next.
Changing Gears Part 1
Escort a stranded researcher back to their outpost. Your scans pick up a lone ship with no faction markings stuck in Garyf, and its pilot, Weaver, needs fuel and an escort home.
- Help the stranded vessel, in Garyf.
- Beam 45M Dilithium into the stranded vessel’s cargo bay.
- Escort Weaver back to her facility, in Garyf.
- Defeat the raider, in Garyf (enemy strength ~32,812,002).
- Inspect the damage to the facility, in Garyf.
The raiders who hit her outpost scatter after one fight, which worries Weaver more than it reassures her. Warp to complete: 400.
Rewards: 1 William T. Riker shard, 3 5★ Uncommon Explorer Parts, 800 Föderation Credits, 3,600,000 Federation Points, -7,387,200 Klingon Points.
Changing Gears Part 2
Retrieve Weaver’s research from the raiding party. The raiders took her warp engine research, and your officer follows their warp trail.
- Pursue the thief and retrieve the warp engine research, in Bell’eu.
- Defeat 12 hostiles of Level 55 or higher.
- Continue pursuing the thief, in Sauchei.
- Defeat the thief, in Sauchei (enemy strength ~33,700,090).
- Return the warp engine configuration Daten to Weaver, in Garyf.
Warp to complete: 400.
Rewards: 1 William T. Riker shard, 3 5★ Uncommon Explorer Parts, 800 Federation Credits, 3,600,000 Federation Points, -7,387,200 Klingonisch Points.
Changing Gears Part 3
Help Weaver calibrate a new iteration of the warp core prototype. She has fixed the error in her calculations, and the new configuration needs a much smaller Dilithium matrix, so you test it with a run between checkpoints.
- Head to the first checkpoint, in Garadius.
- Head to the next checkpoint, in Lankal.
- Rush back to Weaver’s outpost, in Garyf.
- Defeat the raider, in Garyf (enemy strength ~32,812,002).
The test goes well, but Nausicaan ships are at the outpost by the time you get back. Warp to complete: 400.
Rewards: 1 William T. Riker shard, 10,500,000 Dilithium, 800 Federation Credits, 3,600,000 Federation Points, -7,387,200 Klingon Points.
Changing Gears Part 4
Infiltrate Da Silva’s mining operation. You follow the Nausicaans to a Dilithium-rich system and blend in by mining until an inspector notices your ship has no registration.
- Follow the Nausicaan raiders back to Da Silva, in Sauchei.
- Investigate the mining fields in ST-19184, in ST-19184.
- Mine 500,000 Dilithium.
- Disable the inspector’s ship, in ST-19184 (enemy strength ~38,273,024).

- Defeat Da Silva, in Tera Nora (enemy strength ~37,173,486).

Rewards: 1 William T. Riker shard, 3 5★ Uncommon Explorer Parts, 800 Federation Credits, 4,200,000 Federation Points, -8,769,600 Klingon Points.
Tips for completing Changing Gears
Bring a survey ship for Part 4. Mining 500,000 Dilithium is the longest single task in the chain, and the objective lists no system, so any Dilithium node you can reach will do.
The fights are easy for this level. Every named enemy is listed at between about 32.8 million and 38.3 million strength. The hostile sweeps (12 in Part 2 and 15 in Part 5) take more time than the boss fights, and neither sweep lists a system.
Keep 45M Dilithium for the first objective payment in Part 1, and plan for warp 400 to 500 on every part.
Across the chain you earn 19,200,000 Federation Points and 4,000 Federation Credits, and the parts carry a combined -39,700,800 Klingon Points.
Are the Changing Gears rewards worth it?
Yes, if you want Riker shards or Federation standing. The chain gives 5 William T. Riker shards, 12 5★ Uncommon Explorer Parts, 10.5 million Dilithium and 19.2 million Federation Points for easy fights and one long mining job. The Klingon Points total is the drawback if you care about that faction. For more missions in this range, see the STFC mission guide.
