A Calculated Risk is a short Augment story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. You pick it up at Terazon-X31 in Augment Space and warp 21 to reach it, then spend the mission traveling between old experiment sites for Khan and reporting what you find. There is no combat and one resource donation, so it plays as a quick errand run that pays out Augment Points along with a batch of speed-ups.

The five objectives run in order, with no choice split:

The mission begins at Terazon-X31 and lists warp 21 to complete, so plan for a jump of that range. Every stop stays inside Augment Space, moving you through Gealan, Yarda, Paradane, and Lydan. Those are mid-tier Augment systems in the low-20s to mid-30s level band, which is roughly where this mission slots into the arc. Because every objective is travel or a delivery, any ship that can make the warp distance will do the job. You do not need a combat loadout, and you can leave your main battle fleet on other work while a scout handles the hops.
A Calculated Risk rewards
Finishing the mission gives:
- 100 Augment Points
- 1 Dark Matter
- 19 three-hour speed-ups
- 3 one-day speed-ups
The speed-ups are the practical draw, since twenty-two of them stacked together move a build or research timer along nicely. The Augment Points feed your standing with the Augment faction, and the single Dark Matter is a small bonus toward the refined materials you spend later in the game. Completing the mission also opens the next step in the line, A Reliable Source.
Tips
Stockpile the 6,500 Dilithium before you start. The donation sits in the middle of the mission, so if you are short you will stall halfway through with objectives still to go. Dilithium is easy to bank ahead of time, so top up first and run the whole thing in one sitting instead of pausing to farm.
Nothing shoots back on this one, which makes it a good mission to clear while your stronger ships are tied up elsewhere. Send a fast, low-power ship to make the warp-21 hops and tick off the travel objectives at your own pace.
A Calculated Risk follows USS Franklin-A Part 6 and leads into A Reliable Source, so treat it as one leg of the longer Augment run rather than a standalone quest. If you are grinding the Augment arc for reputation and Augment Points, fit it in on a turn when you already have the Dilithium ready to hand over.
