Covering Our Bases is a Romulan-side story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you attack the Klingons in a way that puts the blame on the Corvallens. You scout the Francihk system, clear six hostiles of level 20 or higher, defeat a Klingon D4, bombard the Klingon colony and return to your station. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 13 to complete. The game lists a recommended level of 1. The reward is 15,000 Tritanium, 5,000 2★ Raw Crystal, 35 Romulan Credits and 400 Romulan Points, and finishing it unlocks What They Don’t Know Will Hurt Them.
Covering Our Bases objectives
There are five objectives in a fixed order and no choice split:
- Scout the Francihk system. Location: Francihk.
- Defeat 6 hostiles of Level 20 or higher.
- Defeat the Klingon D4. Location: Francihk. Enemy strength is roughly 55,452.
- Bombard the Klingon colony. Location: Francihk.
- Return to your Station.
The hostile quota has no system attached, but Francihk is the natural place for it. The Klingon D4 is the named fight, and the bombardment follows straight after.
Where and what warp
You can accept Covering Our Bases at warp 1, and warp 13 covers the trip to Francihk. The listed recommended level is 1. In practice you need a ship that can beat level 20 hostiles and a D4 at about 55,000 strength.
Francihk is a level 20 Klingon system. The game lists Klingon Traders, Patrols and Fighters there at level 20 to 23, so every one of them counts toward the six-kill quota.

Tips
Do the six kills in Francihk before you go after the D4. You have to be there anyway, and every listed hostile qualifies.
