Counterpoint is a level 30 mission in Star Trek Fleet Command set against Species 8472, and the game flags it as a higher-threat mission that pays more valuable rewards. It is picked up in Eviloy, needs warp 25 to start and to complete, and sends you to Kalak to answer a distress signal. The standout reward is a shard of The Doctor, alongside 40 10K Dilithium Tokens and 1,000 Premium Artifact Tokens. The Formation Armada step is the real test.
Counterpoint objectives
There are five objectives, in order, with no choice split:
- Investigate the distress signal. Location: Kalak.
- Defeat a Hirogen ship. Location: Kalak (enemy strength ~153,150).
- Defeat a Formation Armada and claim the reward chest.
- Pick up the wounded Devore. Location: Kalak.
- Deliver the wounded Devore home. Location: Eviloy.
The distress signal takes you to Kalak, where a Hirogen ship is the first fight. The third step is different from the rest: you have to defeat a Formation Armada and claim its reward chest, and no system is attached to it. After that you return to Kalak to pick up a wounded Devore and carry them home to Eviloy, which is also where the mission started.
Where and what warp
The mission is picked up in Eviloy, and both the start and the finish need warp 25. Kalak and Eviloy are the only two systems named, so the travel is a short back and forth. The recommended level is 30.

The Dilithium and Tritanium come as tokens rather than raw amounts, while the Parsteel is paid directly.
Tips
Plan the Formation Armada before you start. The Hirogen ship in Kalak is listed at only about 153,150 strength, so the first fight should not slow a level 30 player down, but the armada step is the harder part of the mission. Formation armadas have their own setup and rules, covered on the formation armadas page, and the mission cannot move on to the Devore steps until that chest is claimed.
The Doctor shard is the main reason to run it. Counterpoint is one of the missions that awards a shard of The Doctor, so if you are building him, finish this one rather than leaving it at the armada step.
The rest of the reward is generous for level 30: 1,000 Premium Artifact Tokens plus 40 Dilithium tokens and four Tritanium tokens.
