Combat Training 8: Rookie opens the level 8 Combat Training set in Star Trek Fleet Command. It asks for a single win against a hostile of level 8 or higher, in any system. It starts and finishes at warp 1, and the game lists a recommended level of 1, so the real bar is beating one level 8 hostile. The reward is 95 Dilithium and a Gaila shard. It takes one fight, so there is no reason to leave it sitting in your log once your ship can handle level 8.
Combat Training 8: Rookie objectives
The story line is the one all Combat Training missions share: Test your skills in battle against escalating difficulties of hostile enemies. There is one objective and no choice split:
- Defeat a hostile of Level 8 or higher.
No system is named, so any hostile at level 8 or above counts.
Where and what warp
Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no pickup system. The mission does not send you anywhere, but you need to reach a system where level 8 hostiles appear.
The recommended level is listed as 1. The objective sets the real requirement: one win at level 8 or higher.
Combat Training 8: Rookie rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dilithium | 95 |
| Gaila shards | 1 |
Completing it unlocks Combat Training 8: Soldier.
How Rookie 8 compares with other Rookie steps
Each early Rookie mission asks for one kill at its level and pays one shard of a different officer:
| Mission | Rewards |
|---|---|
| Combat Training 7: Rookie | 60 Dilithium, 1 Vel K’Bentayr shard |
| Combat Training 8: Rookie | 95 Dilithium, 1 Gaila shard |
| Combat Training 9: Rookie | 160 Dilithium, 1 T’Laan shard |
| Combat Training 10: Rookie | 240 Dilithium, 1 Helvia shard |
| Combat Training 11: Rookie | 320 Dilithium, 1 K’Bisch shard |
| Combat Training 12: Rookie | 440 Dilithium, 2 Domitia shards |
The Dilithium climbs at every step, and level 12 is the first Rookie mission in this range to pay two shards instead of one.
What comes before it
This mission follows Combat Training 7: Veteran, a single fight against a hostile captain at about 971 strength that pays 150 Dilithium, six 10 Minute Speed Ups and two Vel K’Bentayr shards. A ship that beat that captain should be close to ready for a single level 8 hostile.
The level 8 set then carries on with the Soldier and Veteran steps, Combat Training 8: Veteran being the last before the level 9 missions begin.
Tips
Pick a level 8 target. Higher-level hostiles count too, but a level 8 hostile is the quickest win and the cheapest repair.
Treat the Rookie steps as quick wins. Each one is a single fight, and the next, Combat Training 9: Rookie, pays 160 Dilithium and a T’Laan shard for the same kind of job one level higher.
Previous mission: Combat Training 7: Veteran. Next mission: Combat Training 8: Soldier. Other missions sorted by level are on the mission guide.
