Combat Training 2: Veteran is the last of the level 2 combat training missions in Star Trek Fleet Command, and one of the first combat missions a new player finishes. You defeat five hostiles of level 2 or higher, anywhere you find them. It starts and finishes at warp 1 with no pickup system, and pays 12 Dilithium and four 1 Minute Speed Ups. The rewards are small, but it moves you on to level 3, where the combat training missions start paying officer shards.

Combat Training 2: Veteran objectives

The story line is shared by the whole combat training series: test yourself against hostiles of rising difficulty. There is one objective and no choice split:

  • Defeat 5 Level 2 or higher hostiles.

No system is named and no specific enemy is listed, so any hostile at level 2 or above counts. Unlike most later Veteran tiers, which ask you to beat a single hostile captain, this one is a straight kill count.

Where and what warp

Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no pickup system. Level 2 hostiles are early-game targets, so there is no extra range to plan for.

The game lists a recommended level of 1.

The first combat training levels

Combat training runs Rookie, Soldier and Veteran at each level. The early tiers pay very little, then officer shards appear from level 3:

Mission Objective Rewards
Combat Training 1: Soldier 3 hostiles of level 1+ 3 Dilithium, 50 Officer XP
Combat Training 2: Rookie 1 hostile of level 2+ 2 Dilithium
Combat Training 2: Veteran 5 hostiles of level 2+ 12 Dilithium, 4 1 Minute Speed Ups
Combat Training 3: Rookie 1 hostile of level 3+ 8 Dilithium, 1 Next Gen Troi shard
Combat Training 3: Soldier 3 hostiles of level 3+ 12 Dilithium, 200 Officer XP, 1 Next Gen Troi shard
Combat Training 4: Soldier 3 hostiles of level 4+ 19 Dilithium, 350 Officer XP, 1 Next Gen La Forge shard
Combat Training 5: Rookie 1 hostile of level 5+ 24 Dilithium, 1 Next Gen Riker shard

Level 2 Veteran pays the most of the level 1 and 2 tiers, and it is the step right before the shard rewards begin. Levels 3, 4 and 5 hand out shards for Next Gen Troi, Next Gen La Forge and Next Gen Riker.

Tips

Finish it as part of your first hostile fights. Five level 2+ kills come quickly, and there is no reason to hold the mission open.

Use the 1 Minute Speed Ups on your first building timers. At this stage many upgrades take only a few minutes, so four of them can finish a build outright.

Push straight on to level 3. The Troi shards from Combat Training 3 are the first officer rewards in the series.

The mission before this one is Combat Training 2: Soldier. The full series is on the combat training missions page.
