Back to Basics is a Romulan faction mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you arrange a meeting with Federation representatives. You meet a contact in Odin, track down the contact’s competitor in X5-TKV, defeat an enemy there at roughly 6.54 million strength, and report back to Chas. The game lists a recommended level of 1, but the mission needs warp 150 to finish. The reward is 188,000 Officer XP, 210 Premium Recruit Tokens and 538,000 Romulan Points.
Back to Basics objectives
There are five objectives and no choice split:
- Meet the contact. Location: Odin.
- Find the contact’s competitor. Location: X5-TKV.
- Defeat the contact’s enemy. Location: X5-TKV. Enemy strength is roughly 6,542,068.
- Return to Chas. Location: Odin.
- Return to your Station.
The contact in Odin is Chas. To earn the meeting, you go to X5-TKV, find the competitor and beat the enemy there. Then you fly back to Chas in Odin and head home. The one fight is the step that decides the mission.
Where and what warp
There is no pickup system, and the mission becomes available at warp 1. Completing it needs warp 150. The route runs Odin, X5-TKV, Odin, then home.
The recommended level shows as 1. The warp 150 range and a fight at about 6.54 million strength are the real bar.

The warp climbs at each step, from 120 to 150 to 160. Back to Basics is the officer-focused step of the three, and Fixing the Fracture after it pays a very large Parsteel reward along with the same Romulan Points and Credits.
Tips
Bring your best combat ship to X5-TKV. The enemy at about 6.54 million strength is the only fight, but it is a big one.
Plan for warp 160. The next mission needs ten more warp than this one, so if Odin and X5-TKV are at the edge of your range, work on warp research before you finish here.
Weigh the Federation loss. Close to 600,000 Federation Points is a large drop, and Fixing the Fracture costs the same again. Two missions in a row add up to almost 1.2 million.
