Agony Booth is an Epic Forbidden Tech built around hostile grinding. At max tier and level it adds 4,000% Hull Health and 3,000% Damage against non-Armada hostiles, along with 2,000 Apex Barrier against those same targets and a 500% increase to positive FKR reputation gains. It rewards accounts that spend their time farming hostiles and building faction reputation, and it takes a deep investment before the best of it shows up.
What Agony Booth does
The piece carries four buffs, and the two that do the heavy lifting are Hull Health and damage against hostiles that are not armada targets. Hull Health scales to 4,000% and the damage bonus to 3,000%, which is the difference between a grinding ship that needs a repair every few kills and one that can stay out. Apex Barrier is a flat value rather than a percentage, and it applies to those same non-Armada targets. The reputation buff covers positive faction gains, so Federation, Klingon and Romulan reputation all build faster while the piece is equipped.
| Buff | Unlocks at tier | Unlock value | Max value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Barrier against non-Armada hostiles | 1 | 400 | 2,000 |
| Positive FKR Reputation gains | 3 | 50% | 500% |
| Hull Health | 6 | 200% | 4,000% |
| Damage against non-Armada hostiles | 8 | 250% | 3,000% |
Those buffs do not arrive together, and that shapes how the piece feels while you build it. Apex Barrier is live the moment you unlock it, reputation follows at tier 3, hull at tier 6, and the damage bonus waits until tier 8. A half-built Agony Booth is a survivability piece; the offensive half of it only exists at the top end.
How to get Agony Booth
Unlocking runs through the Forbidden Tech refinery, using Epic Forbidden Fragments. The game lists Q’s Trials and special rewards as where those fragments come from.
Fragments alone will not put the piece on a ship. Forbidden Tech Fusion Rods unlock the Forbidden Tech slots themselves, and they are also what you spend to pull a piece back off a ship later, so keep some in reserve if you plan to move things around. Fusion Rods come from the Forbidden Tech refinery and the store. Duplicate material is not wasted either: excess Forbidden Tech parts turn into Forbidden Tech Credit Pieces, which exchange for Forbidden Tech Credits back in the refinery.
Upgrading Agony Booth
Two separate tracks run alongside each other. Tier-ups raise the level cap and switch on the later buffs, paid for with Forbidden Tech Reactors and Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalysts. Levels scale the values you have already unlocked, paid for with Reactors and Forbidden Tech Protomatter. Neither one is a straight purchase: Reactors are what you spend to attempt an upgrade, and Probability Devices raise the odds that an attempt lands.
| Tier | Level cap | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | Starting tier, no cost |
| 7 | 35 | 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 9,900 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
| 12 | 60 | 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 11,500 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
Running Agony Booth all the way from tier 1 to tier 12 costs 352 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 161,550 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Leveling it from 2 to 60 costs a further 1,856 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 1,305,350 Forbidden Tech Protomatter. Those totals are current as of the latest game data.
Best ships and uses for Agony Booth
Put this on whichever ship does your hostile grinding. The Apex Barrier and the damage bonus are both written against non-Armada hostiles, so neither does anything in an armada or against another player. Hull Health carries no such restriction, which means the piece is not entirely dead weight on a ship that pulls double duty, but the grind is still the reason to build it.
The natural home is the battleship or explorer your grinding crew flies, where the hull buff stretches how long you can stay in a field of hostiles before heading back to repair. If you are working through a faction reputation push at the same time, the FKR buff stacks onto that grind for free. Our hostile guide covers which targets are worth farming at each level.
Agony Booth in Star Trek
The agony booth comes from the original series episode “Mirror, Mirror,” which introduced the Terran Empire and its mirror-universe version of the Enterprise. Discipline in the Empire ran on pain. Officers carried personal agonizers and surrendered them to be punished, while the booth was the larger chamber reserved for serious failures. Chekov is sent to one after a botched attempt on Kirk’s life. Enterprise revisited the device decades later in “In a Mirror, Darkly,” where the ISS Enterprise keeps one in regular use. The game’s own description leans into the black comedy of it, framing the booth as a management technique for winning friends.
Is Agony Booth worth it?
For a player whose day is hostile grinding, yes, and it is worth committing past tier 8 rather than parking it early, because the damage bonus does not exist below that. Anyone who mostly runs armadas or fights other players should spend Catalysts elsewhere, since half the buffs will sit idle. The reputation gain is a welcome extra during a faction push rather than a reason to build the piece.
