A Light in the Darkness picks up the hunt for another Progenitor artifact signal and traces it to the Maumo system. You warp out to 150, clear 15 hostiles of Level 46 or higher, and carry the artifact back to your station. The reward is a large Dilithium payout along with a stack of speedups and a single Ion Particle, and finishing the mission opens the next step in the arc.

A Light in the Darkness objectives

The mission runs three objectives in order, with no choice split:

  • Find the source of the Progenitor signal in the Maumo system.
  • Defeat 15 hostiles of Level 46 or higher.
  • Return the artifact to your station.

The first objective is a travel step to Maumo. The second is the real work: fifteen kills against high-level hostiles, so this is a combat mission rather than a quick errand. The third sends you home to hand in the artifact and close out the mission. There is no branch or decision along the way, so you can run all three objectives straight through.

Where and what warp

The mission starts close to home at warp 1, since it continues straight on from the previous story step. The action then moves to Maumo, shown as system 47, which sits 150 warp out. That warp-to-complete figure of 150 is the number to plan around. A lot of earlier ships do not reach that far on their own, so check your range before you commit and bring a warp boost or a longer-range hull if you fall short. Because the fighting happens in Maumo, you want a ship and crew that can grind Level 46-plus hostiles once you arrive, not a mining or survey build.

This is a Neutral mission, so clearing it does not swing your standing with any faction. You can take it on without worrying about a reputation hit in Federation, Klingon, or Romulan space.

A Light in the Darkness rewards

Completing the mission pays out:

  • 7,410,000 Dilithium
  • 11 eight-hour speedups
  • 1 Ion Particle

The Dilithium is the headline here. It is a core currency for research and upgrades, and 7.4 million is a meaningful top-up at most points in the game. The eight-hour speedups help push a build or research timer, and the Ion Particle is a crafting material. Completing the mission also unlocks the next mission in the chain.

Tips

Sort out warp range first. Maumo at 150 is the gate that trips people up, so if your best ship cannot reach it, plan for a warp boost or move up to a hull with the range before you take the mission on. The data lists a recommended level of 1, but ignore that: the real difficulty is the 15 Level 46 or higher hostiles, not a station level. Slot a crew built for hostile grinding and clear all 15 in Maumo in one sitting so you are not warping back and forth.

A Light in the Darkness continues from The Blind Leading the Blind and leads into Into the Void, so wrapping it up keeps the Progenitor storyline moving forward.
