Wise Investment

Wise Investment is a short mining mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where an entrepreneur asks you to help fund his latest venture. It is picked up in Vindemiatrix at warp 11, needs warp 12 to complete, and has a recommended level of 1. You meet him in Labac, mine 3,000 Tritanium, and then decide whether to invest it. Investing pays 22,000 Parsteel and 2 1★ Survey Parts; walking away pays 43,000 Parsteel.

Wise Investment objectives

Three objectives come first, and the third one is a choice:

  • Meet the Entrepreneur in the Labac system. Location: Labac.
  • Mine 3,000 Tritanium.
  • Decide what to do with the Entrepreneur. (choice: invest in the Entrepreneur?)

Invest

  • Donate 3,000 Tritanium to the Entrepreneur.

Rewards for this path: 22,000 Parsteel and 2 1★ Survey Parts.

Do not invest

  • Return to Station.

Reward for this path: 43,000 Parsteel.

There is no fight on either side. The whole mission is a trip to Labac, a mining job and a decision, so a combat ship is never needed and a single mining ship can run it from start to finish.

Where and what warp

You accept the mission in Vindemiatrix, which needs warp 11. Completing it needs warp 12, one point higher, since the meeting is in Labac. The mining objective names no system, so you can mine the 3,000 Tritanium wherever suits you. The recommended level is 1.

Wise Investment rewards

Choice Cost Rewards
Invest 3,000 Tritanium 22,000 Parsteel, 2 1★ Survey Parts
Do not invest None 43,000 Parsteel

The mission does not unlock a follow-up part.

Tips

On resources alone, walking away is the better deal. Returning to your station pays 43,000 Parsteel and lets you keep the 3,000 Tritanium you mined. Investing pays 21,000 less Parsteel and also takes that Tritanium off you.

The only reason to invest is the 2 1★ Survey Parts. Put another way, investing means giving up 3,000 Tritanium and 21,000 Parsteel to get those two parts. If you are working on an early survey ship and need them right now, the trade can make sense. Otherwise, the Parsteel path wins on resources.

There are other places to pick up 1★ Survey Parts. Guilty By Association pays 40 of them alongside other rewards, and The Settling Nomad pays 3 for defeating Boslic ships, so you rarely need to invest here to get survey parts.

Send the ship you normally mine with for the Tritanium step. It is the one objective that takes real time, while the meeting in Labac is only a visit.

Line up the mining near Labac if you can. The meeting comes first, so mining close to that system keeps the route short before you make your choice.

Every other mission by level is on the mission guide.
