USS Franklin-A Part 9 is a station upgrade mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, recommended for level 47. It has one objective, upgrade Operations to level 48, and it never leaves your home system, so warp 1 covers both starting and finishing it. The reward is a single Franklin-A Alpha Retrofit Key, and completing it unlocks USS Franklin-A Part 10. If you are building toward the USS Franklin-A, this is a free key for an upgrade you were going to make anyway.
USS Franklin-A Part 9 objectives
There is only one step, and no choice split:
- Upgrade Operations to Level 48.
The story line is short: upgrade your Station to unlock updates for the Franklin-A. Every part of this chain works the same way. Instead of flying somewhere or fighting, each part asks you to push Operations one level higher, and it pays out a Franklin component in return. Part 9 is where the rewards change from warp parts to retrofit keys.
Where and what warp
The mission is a station task, so there is no pickup system and no travel. Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete means any ship, or no ship at all, is enough. The recommended level is 47, and the objective is the step from Operations 47 to Operations 48, so the mission lines up with the next upgrade on your station.
USS Franklin-A Part 9 rewards
Completing the mission pays 1 Franklin-A Alpha Retrofit Key. Finishing it also unlocks USS Franklin-A Part 10.
Where Part 9 sits in the USS Franklin-A chain
The chain has 11 parts, and the later ones follow a strict pattern of one Operations level per part. Parts 7 to 11 look like this:

Parts 1 through 8 pay Mk. II warp components, starting with the Franklin Warp Interlock Mk. II at Operations 37. From Part 9 onward the chain pays retrofit keys instead: Alpha here, Delta in Part 10 and Omega in Part 11. Part 9 is the first of those three keys, so if the retrofit keys are what you are after, this is where that stretch of the chain begins. Every part in the chain is warp 1 at both ends.

Treat this mission as a checkpoint rather than a task. You will reach Operations 48 through normal station progress, and the mission simply rewards you for it, so there is nothing to plan around except making sure Part 8 is finished first so Part 9 is active in your log.
Check the requirements screen for Operations 48 before you start saving for it. The mission itself asks for nothing beyond the upgrade, so whatever that screen lists is the whole cost of this part.
Keep the key and the rest of the chain moving together. Parts 10 and 11 follow straight on at Operations 49 and 50, so the three retrofit keys come in quick succession as your station levels up.
