Upgrade R&D Department to Level 30 is a station-building mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. Its one objective is to raise your R&D Department to level 30, and it needs no travel: the data lists warp 1 to start and to complete, with a recommended level of 1. The reward is 700,000 Tritanium and a 1 Hour Repair Speed Up. It pays out for an upgrade you are making anyway, and finishing it moves you on to the Defense Platform B level 30 mission.
Upgrade R&D Department to Level 30 objectives
The mission text describes the R&D Department as the building that unlocks additional upgrades for the Shipyard and ships. There is a single objective and no choice split:
- Upgrade R&D Department to Level 30.
Nothing is fought, donated or delivered. The objective clears when your R&D Department reaches level 30, so the mission works as a tracker attached to your station’s progress.
Where and what warp
Everything happens at your station. There is no pickup system and no destination, and both warp values are 1. The recommended level is listed as 1; the real requirement is whatever the R&D Department level 30 upgrade itself asks for.
Upgrade R&D Department to Level 30 rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tritanium | 700,000 |
| 1 Hour Repair Speed Up | 1 |
Completing it also unlocks the next station mission in the sequence, Upgrade Defense Platform B to Level 30. The mission before it is Upgrade Tritanium Warehouse to Level 28.
How the reward compares with other building missions
Station missions all share the same shape, one upgrade and warp 1, but the Tritanium reward grows sharply with the level asked for. The level 19 version of this R&D mission and two Operations missions either side of level 30 show the scale.
| Mission | Tritanium | Repair speed up |
|---|---|---|
| Upgrade R&D Department to Level 19 | 7,000 | 2 × 5 Minute |
| Upgrade Operations to Level 24 | 350,000 | 2 × 10 Minute |
| Upgrade R&D Department to Level 30 | 700,000 | 1 × 1 Hour |
| Upgrade Operations to Level 34 | 6,000,000 | 2 × 1 Hour |
The level 30 R&D mission pays 100 times the Tritanium of the level 19 R&D mission, and double the Operations level 24 reward. The Operations level 34 mission is almost nine times higher again, so rewards climb steeply through the 30s.
The repair speed up also changes shape. The lower-level missions give two short ones, while level 30 gives a single one-hour speed up.
Other R&D levels have their own missions too, including level 25 and level 40.
Tips
Claim the reward as soon as the upgrade finishes. With no travel and no combat, collecting it is the only step left.
Put the Tritanium straight into your next build. At 700,000 it is a useful top-up for the next round of station upgrades in this range.
Keep the 1 Hour Repair Speed Up for a combat ship coming back from a hard fight. For missions that send your ships out, see the mission guide.
