To Free, or Not to Free

To Free, or Not to Free is a level 66 mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, picked up in Cor’Tun. Two androids, Proto and Postea, have fled their creator, Drul, and Maia, your A.I., steps in to help them. It starts at warp 1300 and needs warp 1400 to complete, asks for a 100M Parsteel payment and a 10-hostile fight, then asks whether you protect the androids or hand them back. Both paths pay 1,200,000 of a raw Σ-resource and 2,925,000,000 Dilithium, with no faction reputation.

To Free, or Not to Free objectives

The mission branches after four steps:

  • Set a course for Sassafras. Location: Sassafras.
  • Speak with Ricardo. Location: Sassafras.
  • Pay Ricardo 100M Parsteel.
  • Defeat 10 hostiles of level 65 or higher.
  • What should we do? (choice split)

The androids want Ricardo, a scientist in Sassafras whom their master dislikes, to disable the tracking system Drul built into them. Ricardo wants paying, and Maia, introducing herself as a synthetic lifeform like them, covers his price of 100M Parsteel. Ricardo removes the tracking beacon and the command override, but Drul’s bots have already tracked them there, and you fight them off. Then Drul arrives and demands his property back, offering a reward.

Protect the androids

  • Defeat the androids’ master. Location: Sassafras.

Rewards: 1,200,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium, 2,925,000,000 Dilithium.

Return them to their master

  • Disable the androids’ vessel. Location: Sassafras.

Rewards: 1,200,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel, 2,925,000,000 Dilithium.

Both fights are listed at about 7.5 billion strength. Protect the androids and Drul is destroyed; they head for a mixed colony in Biba. Return them and Drul beams them aboard, saying he has some work to undo.

Where and what warp

The mission is picked up in Cor’Tun and moves to Sassafras for everything else. It needs warp 1300 to start and warp 1400 to complete. The recommended level is 66.

Compared with other level 66 missions without reputation

Mission Pickup Warp to complete Fights Main rewards
Duplicity Biba 1300 Colonel Belaka 296,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium, 720,000,000 Dilithium
To Free, or Not to Free Cor’Tun 1400 10 hostiles, then the master or the androids 1,200,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium or Σ-Parsteel, 2,925,000,000 Dilithium
Once a Villain Zeta Kan 1300 Colony ship, then 10 hostiles 517,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium, 1,260,000,000 Dilithium

Tips

Have 100M Parsteel ready before you reach Ricardo. The payment is the step that frees the androids from Drul’s control, and the mission waits on it.

The two paths have identical fights and Dilithium, so pick by the Σ-resource you need; the Σ resources guide covers both.

Warp 1400 is needed to finish, a step above the warp 1300 of most level 66 missions. More missions at this level are on the mission guide.
