The Cold War is a main storyline mission in Star Trek Fleet Command with one objective: upgrade Operations to level 20. It is recommended for level 20 and runs at warp 1 from start to finish, so there is no travel or combat. The reward is 250,000 Parsteel. It is a large Parsteel bonus for an upgrade on the main building path.
The Cold War objectives
There is one objective and no choice split:
- Upgrade Operations to Level 20.
No system is named and nothing needs to be fought or donated. The mission clears when Operations reaches level 20.
Where and what warp
Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete. Everything happens on your Station.
The recommended level is 20, which lines up with the upgrade itself.
The Cold War rewards
The reward is 250,000 Parsteel. Completing the mission unlocks the next one in the main story, The Narada’s Legacy.
Two missions for the same upgrade
Operations 20 completes two separate missions. The Cold War is the storyline one; the other is the Operations upgrade mission.

The Cold War pays far more than the station missions around it. The Narada’s Legacy after it is the first of these to send you out, at warp 17.
Tips
Put the 250,000 Parsteel straight into the next round of upgrades. At level 20 it covers a good share of the costs that come after Operations 20.
