Prime 5★ Gas Refining is a single-level Galaxy research in Star Trek Fleet Command that adds one extra refine every time you refine 5★ Gas. It unlocks at R&D Department 53 and costs 2K 6★ Uncommon Refined Gas, 199.3B Dilithium and 370 Rodinium Particles. The 5★ raw gas it multiplies is mined in 20 systems, from five level 30 systems up to Santheis at level 59, all listed below.

The base time is before your research-speed bonuses, which shorten it. Rodinium Particles are used to upgrade research nodes in the Galaxy tree, so this node competes with the 4★ prime refining nodes for them.
What Prime 5★ Gas Refining does
5★ Raw Gas is refined into 5★ Refined Gas, which is used to upgrade 5★ ships. This research gives you one extra refine on every 5★ Gas refine at the Refinery, so the same raw haul goes further for the rest of the game. It changes nothing about where or how fast you mine; it raises what each refine returns.

The five level 30 systems (Crios Alpha, Hoobishan Alpha, Tezera Alpha, Triss Alpha and Zhian Alpha) have small 250,000 nodes with a fast 775 per hour rate and short warp. From level 50 up the nodes are much larger, from 1,000,000 in Beine to 3,000,000 in Santheis. Hox is the outlier: a 60,000,000 node mining at 1,000 per hour.

Prime 5★ Gas Refining is one of nine matching Galaxy nodes, one per resource and grade. The 3★ nodes need the matching miner research first; the 4★ and 5★ nodes have no research prerequisite.

Is Prime 5★ Gas Refining worth it?
Yes once you refine 5★ Gas regularly and can pay the cost without stalling other plans. A permanent extra refine compounds on every batch, and 5★ gas stays in demand for ship upgrades.
