Open Cluster is a Klingon-side mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, picked up in Yadow. The Klingons have commissioned a prototype cluster torpedo from researchers on Oltana, and your job is to find their hidden facility, clear some hostiles and deliver the torpedoes to General Tavrak. The recommended level is 1 and it needs warp 18 both to pick up and to complete. It pays 120 3★ Explorer Parts, three 8 Hour Speed Ups and Klingon Credits, at a small Romulan standing cost.
Open Cluster objectives
There are three objectives and no choice split:
- Find the hidden research facility on Oltana. Location: Vindemiatrix.
- Defeat 3 hostiles in the Fastolf system.
- Deliver the cluster torpedoes to General Tavrak. Location: Khitomer.
The route touches three systems. Oltana, where the research facility is hidden, is in Vindemiatrix. The hostile objective names the Fastolf system and asks for three kills there. The torpedoes then go to General Tavrak in Khitomer, which closes the mission.
The three Fastolf hostiles are the only combat, and the mission data gives no strength figure for them. Finding the facility and handing over the torpedoes are both travel steps, so once the Fastolf kills are done the rest of the mission is a delivery run to Khitomer.
Where and what warp
Open Cluster is picked up in Yadow. It needs warp 18 to start and warp 18 to complete, so the range that gets you to Yadow covers Vindemiatrix, Fastolf and Khitomer as well. The recommended level is 1.
Yadow is also the setting for Fight Back, another warp 18 mission, in which you reach the resistance fighters on Riquzei and destroy 10 hostile ships in Yadow for 500,000 Parsteel. If you are already working in Yadow, the two sit comfortably together.

The Romulan Points line is negative, so finishing Open Cluster moves you toward the Klingons and away from the Romulans by a similar amount. The current game data shows no follow-up mission unlocked by Open Cluster.
Tips
Bring a ship that can handle three hostile fights. The Fastolf objective is the only combat, and since the data gives no strength for those hostiles, a combat ship is the safe choice over a survey or mining hull.
The 120 3★ Explorer Parts are the main draw, and they are most useful to a player working on an explorer ship. The three 8 Hour Speed Ups are a solid extra.
Think about the faction swing if you are working on Romulan standing. The loss is 2,579 Romulan Points against a gain of 3,100 Klingon Points, which is small, but it pushes in one direction only.
