Mixed Messages is a level 40 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you help Starfleet with a messaging problem that leads you to VESTA. It starts at warp 1 with a meeting in Sirius and needs warp 45 to finish, since the trail runs through Wolf and Terra Nova before ending in Lorillia. The payout is 33,828,000 Parsteel, 24 3 Hour Speed Ups and 400 4★ Common Explorer Parts, and it unlocks the next part of the story. It is a solid Parsteel mission with one real fight.
Mixed Messages objectives
There are six objectives and no choice split, so every player follows the same route:
- Meet with Admiral Boer. Location: Sirius.
- Follow the Admiral to the data hub. Location: Wolf.
- Defeat 12 hostiles of level 37 or higher.
- Follow the Admiral to the second data hub. Location: Terra Nova.
- Defeat VESTA’s Drone. Location: Terra Nova. Enemy strength is roughly 937,932.
- Try and track VESTA down. Location: Lorillia.
The first two steps are escort-style travel. You meet Admiral Boer in Sirius, then follow him to a data hub in Wolf. After that the mission stops asking you to travel and asks for 12 kills against hostiles of level 37 or higher. No system is named for that step, so any hostile at or above level 37 counts wherever you find it.
The second half picks the story back up in Terra Nova. You follow the Admiral to the second data hub, and this is where VESTA’s Drone shows up. At roughly 937,932 strength it is the only scripted fight in the mission. Once it is gone, the last step sends you to Lorillia to try and track VESTA down, which closes the mission and hands you the rewards.
Where and what warp
The mission can be picked up at warp 1, and there is no pickup system to fly to first. Finishing it needs warp 45, because the route covers four systems: Sirius, Wolf, Terra Nova and Lorillia. The recommended level is 40, which matches the level 37 floor on the hostile kill step.
Plan for a lot of flying. The kill objective sits between two travel legs, so you may find it faster to grind the 12 hostiles close to Wolf or Terra Nova rather than returning to your usual farming spot.

Tips
Use a combat ship for the whole run. Twelve level 37 kills and a drone close to a million strength both reward a ship that can fight at level 40, and a survey hull will stall on both.
Knock out the 12 kills before you head to Terra Nova. The drone fight will cost hull, and if you have already cleared the kill count you can repair once and finish the last two steps without another grind.
The 24 3 Hour Speed Ups add up to 72 hours of build or research time. Save them for a long upgrade rather than spending them on short timers. The 400 4★ Common Explorer Parts go toward explorer upgrades, so hold them if you are building an explorer.
VESTA is a recurring threat in this storyline. She also appears in Out of Reach, where her war has already started.
