Why Mirror Troi matters
Mirror Troi rounds out the Mirror Universe synergy group as the anti-Explorer Apex Barrier captain. If your opponent flies an Explorer and you want a brutal defensive answer with an Energy Weapon damage spike layered on top, she is the seat to build the crew around.
She comes from the Imperial Starfleet branch of the Mirror Universe, where she is an Inquisitor on Captain Picard’s I.S.S. Stargazer. In STFC, that Inquisitor flavor turns into raw Energy Weapon punishment against any opponent already tagged with Assimilate.
This guide covers her abilities, the role she fills, her synergy partners, how to crew her, where to focus shards, and the questions players actually ask before chasing her.
Star Trek background
The character STFC calls Mirror Troi originates in IDW Publishing’s licensed Star Trek: The Next Generation – Mirror Broken comic series from 2017. That story sits in the Mirror Universe established by the original “Mirror, Mirror” episode, decades after Spock’s Terran revolution failed and the Empire was pushed back by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance.
In the comics, Deanna Troi is the Inquisitor aboard the I.S.S. Stargazer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The Inquisitor role is one of Imperial Starfleet’s most feared posts: an officer whose job is to monitor the thoughts and loyalties of every crewmember. Troi’s Betazoid empathic and telepathic abilities make her well suited to that work.
When Picard plots to seize the I.S.S. Enterprise-D, secretly under construction at Utopia Planitia, Troi screens the Stargazer crew to identify the most loyal candidates for transfer and makes initial contact with Commander Riker. She stays loyal to Picard personally even when Kira Nerys rises to become Empress, and that personal loyalty is the thread the comics keep returning to.
The character is non-canon. She has never appeared in a televised Trek episode. Everything Scopely draws on for her STFC art and flavor text traces back to IDW’s comics rather than the TV shows.
Role in STFC
Mirror Troi sits inside the Mirror Universe synergy group built around the Apex Barrier mechanic introduced by Mirror Picard. Apex Barrier provides true damage mitigation after every other defensive bonus is calculated. Every 100 Apex Barrier soaks roughly one percent more incoming damage, and multiple sources of Apex Barrier stack on the same bridge.
Within that triangle, Mirror Data is the anti-Interceptor captain, Mirror Ezri is the anti-Battleship captain, and Mirror Troi is the anti-Explorer captain. Pick the captain whose target type matches the ship you expect to fight, then build the rest of the bridge for extra barrier and weapon damage.
She is a Science class officer at Rare (3-star) rarity. She maxes at rank 5, level 30, on the standard rare officer curve. Her ceiling fits the rest of the Mirror Universe set, so a Mirror crew can run with rare-tier captains and still hit competitive numbers at the top end of war and arena play.
Captain ability: Psionic Tactics
When Mirror Troi is your captain and you start combat against an Explorer player, your ship gains an Apex Barrier of 7500 (as of the latest data) for the duration of the battle. The number is a flat value at the captain seat rather than a clean per-rank progression, so do not expect the captain bonus to keep climbing every promotion the way most rare officers do.
What does scale is the synergy stack on the bridge. When she is paired with the right Mirror Universe officers in the other two seats, the captain ability pulls in extra barrier contributions from her synergy group and ends up well above the 7500 baseline. That stack is the reason crews built around her can absorb hits from a comparable Explorer for noticeably longer than a non-Mirror defensive crew.
One important exception: the captain ability does not trigger when Tal is sitting on the same bridge. If you are running a Tal-centric setup already, keep Mirror Troi for a different ship.
Officer ability: Inquisitor’s Wrath
At the start of every round, if the opposing player has the Assimilate status, Mirror Troi increases your Energy Weapon damage for one round. The bonus is single-round, so it refreshes on every round start while the Assimilate condition holds.
The standard way to land Assimilate on the opponent is to put Mirror Data on the bridge in another seat. Mirror Data’s crew ability applies Assimilate, which then activates the rest of the Mirror set’s conditional bonuses, including Mirror Troi’s Energy Weapon spike.
Per-rank values, current as of the latest game data, look like this:
| Rank | Energy Weapon damage bonus |
|---|---|
| 1 | 450% |
| 2 | 850% |
| 3 | 1,500% |
| 4 | 2,300% |
| 5 | 3,500% |
At rank 5 the bonus is a multiple-thousand-percent uplift. That only matters once Assimilate is on the opponent, which is why a Mirror Troi crew without an Assimilate source on the bridge gives up most of her output.
Where Mirror Troi shines
She is built for player versus player combat. Three situations push her to the front of the captain pile:
- You expect to fight an Explorer ship in your war or arena window and you want a captain whose passive defensive bonus is aimed at that specific class.
- You are running an Energy Weapon ship and you want a crew ability that turns Assimilate on the opponent into a single-round damage spike.
- You already have Mirror Data and either Mirror Kira or Mirror Picard, so the conditional triggers actually land in real combat.
She has no specialty in mining, hostile farming, station defense, or armadas. Slot a different officer on those ships and keep Mirror Troi for player-target combat.
How to get Mirror Troi
Mirror Troi was added in the Mirror Universe Galaxy Expansion alongside Mirror Kira and Mirror Ezri, released the month after Mirror Picard and Mirror Data. Shards usually circulate through the Mirror-themed events and the relevant rare officer pulls.
Check the current store and event rotations for live shard sources. Event availability shifts patch to patch, and a guide written today cannot promise what is in the recruit pool next month.
Total shards from recruitment through rank 5 sit at 588, with the per-rank promotion cost climbing from 38 at rank 1 to 225 at rank 5. Plan rank-ups around event windows that hand out Mirror shards in bulk; piecemeal shard pickups can leave her stuck at a mid rank for a long time.
Synergies
Mirror Troi belongs to the Mirror Universe synergy group. The synergy panel for her surfaces six named officers whose presence on the bridge feeds the synergy stack:
- Mirror Picard
- Mirror Data
- Mirror Kira
- Mirror Ezri
- Mirror Uhura
- Quasi
The first three (Picard, Data, Kira) carry the heaviest synergy weight; the other three contribute a smaller share. You do not need every officer in the list to make her work. The most common bridges built around her are:
- Mirror Troi captain, Mirror Data, Mirror Kira: a strong Apex Barrier against Explorers, an improved shot count from Kira, and the Energy Weapon bonus from Troi.
- Mirror Troi captain, Mirror Data, Mirror Picard: trade Kira’s shot count for an even larger barrier when you are facing a particularly aggressive Explorer.
- Mirror Data captain, Mirror Troi, Mirror Kira: flip the captain seat to Mirror Data when you expect to fight Interceptors more than Explorers in your session, while keeping the Troi damage bonus active.
Outside the Mirror set, remember the Tal restriction: the captain ability disables itself when Tal is also on the bridge. Avoid that pairing.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mirror Troi worth chasing?
If you fight Explorers in PvP and you already have Mirror Data, she is the natural anti-Explorer captain to round out the set. If your activity is mining, armadas, or PvE hostile farming, she does not have a role there and most of her value sits idle.
What ship is Mirror Troi best on?
Any Energy Weapon ship in your fleet that you bring to PvP. The captain ability is independent of ship class, so the choice comes down to your weapon profile and which hull you plan to fight Explorers in. She does not turn a Kinetic ship into an Energy ship; pair her crew bonus with a hull whose primary weapon is already energy.
Do I need Mirror Data to make Mirror Troi work?
For the Energy Weapon crew ability, yes in practice. The bonus only triggers against Assimilated targets, and Mirror Data is the main reliable Assimilate source. The captain ability still gives you a flat Apex Barrier against Explorers on its own, but you are leaving most of her output on the bench without an Assimilate trigger somewhere on the bridge.
Why doesn’t the captain ability table look per-rank?
The captain seat value for Mirror Troi does not scale cleanly the way most rare officers’ captain abilities do, so quoting a per-rank captain table would be misleading. Promote her primarily for the Energy Weapon crew ability, which is where the real per-rank growth happens.
How does Mirror Troi compare to Mirror Ezri?
Same shape, different target. Mirror Troi targets Explorers and boosts Energy Weapons; Mirror Ezri targets Battleships and boosts Kinetic Weapons. If your war opponents fly mostly Explorers, build Troi; if they fly mostly Battleships, build Ezri. Most active players end up with both eventually.
Bottom line
Mirror Troi is a focused tool: the anti-Explorer captain in the Mirror Universe set, with an Energy Weapon damage spike that activates against Assimilated opponents. Build her if you already have Mirror Data and you fight Explorers regularly. If your PvP queue runs mostly Interceptors or Battleships, point your shards at Mirror Data or Mirror Ezri first and pick Troi up when she rotates back into events.
