Food For Thought

Food For Thought is a level 51 KSG mission in Star Trek Fleet Command that sends you shopping for K’ulass. It starts at warp 1 after Olive Branch and needs warp 185 to complete, with stops at two trading posts and a delivery to tIn jIb. There is no fight, but you pay 150M Tritanium for the components. The reward is a 1 Day Peace Shield and 27,000,000 Dilithium, and completing it unlocks Beyond the Known.

Food For Thought objectives

The story line is to secure rare components for K’ulass. There are four objectives and no choice split:

  • Go to the first trading post. Location: Odin.
  • Go to the second trading post. Location: Farnham.
  • Pay 150M Tritanium for the components.
  • Bring the components to the KSG. Location: tIn jIb.

The payment step has no location, so you can make it as soon as you reach it. The mission then finishes with the delivery to tIn jIb.

Where and what warp

There is no pickup system. Food For Thought appears at warp 1 once Olive Branch is done, and warp 185 is enough to finish it. That is a step down from the warp 230 Olive Branch needed.

The recommended level is 51. No hostile is listed, so the 150M Tritanium payment is the part that decides whether you can finish in one go.

Food For Thought rewards

Reward Amount
1 Day Peace Shield 1
Dilithium 27,000,000
Klingon Credits 800
Klingon Points 1,150,000
Romulan Points -2,111,400

The Romulan Points figure is negative, so each KSG mission trades some Romulan standing for Klingon standing; the faction reputation page explains the system. Completing Food For Thought unlocks Beyond the Known.

What the Tritanium buys you

The 150M Tritanium payment is the largest cost in the early KSG chain, and the missions around Food For Thought pay part of it back:

Mission Recommended level Warp to complete Tritanium paid out
Olive Branch 51 230 16,200,000
Food For Thought 51 185 none (costs 150M)
Beyond the Known 51 230 64,800,000
Behind Us 51 230 89,100,000

Olive Branch, Beyond the Known and Behind Us together pay 170,100,000 Tritanium, which more than covers the payment here once you have run all three.

Tips

Have the 150M Tritanium on hand before you leave. Both trading posts are travel steps, and arriving at the payment short means an extra wait before you can deliver to tIn jIb.

The 1 Day Peace Shield is the standout reward. Keep it for a day when you expect to be offline or under attack rather than using it straight away.

Plan the route as one loop: Odin, then Farnham, then tIn jIb. None of the stops involves combat, so a fast ship with the warp range works well. Other missions by level are on the mission guide.
