Tempting Fate is a fugitive hunt that pays in Dilithium, and the number is a big one. You pick it up in LSP-539, work through Verin and Hilo, and walk away with 300 Ship XP and 10,660,000 Dilithium. Warp 135 is the gate at both ends, since it takes the same range to start the mission as it does to finish it. Run it the moment your ships can get there.
Tempting Fate objectives
Five objectives, in this order:
- Meet with the private investigators, at Verin.
- Find the fugitive, at Hilo.
- Defeat 8 hostiles of level 45 or higher.
- Capture the fugitive, at Hilo. Enemy strength is roughly 8,452,336.
- Bring Keene to Slooch Morey, at Hilo.
There is no choice split, so every player runs the same five steps. Two of them involve fighting: the eight hostile clear, then the capture itself, which is one opponent rather than a grind. The last step is a hand off back in Hilo once Keene is in custody.
Wo und welcher Warp
The mission sits in LSP-539 waiting to be picked up. From there it sends you to Verin for the meeting with the investigators, then over to Hilo, where the rest of it plays out. Three of the five objectives happen in Hilo, so once you arrive you are mostly settled in one system.
Warp is 135 to accept and 135 to complete. That works in your favor. Plenty of Missionen open with a low warp requirement and then quietly demand far more range at the end, which leaves half-finished quests sitting in the log. Here the number never moves, so if you can reach the pickup you can see the job through. If your range falls short of 135, there is nothing to plan around and the mission waits until your warp research or a ship swap catches up.
Tempting Fate rewards
Completing the mission pays:
- 10,660,000 Dilithium
- 300 Ship XP
Dilithium is the point. Ten and a half million arrives as a research bankroll rather than pocket change, and it lands in a single payment instead of being farmed out of nodes across a week. The 300 Ship XP is a rounding error next to that, so judge this one on the Dilithium alone.
Tips
Check your warp range before anything else. 135 decides whether this is today’s mission or next month’s, and no crew arrangement gets you around it.
Bring a combat setup rather than a mining or survey loadout. The eight hostiles at level 45 and above are the easy half of the fighting. The capture is a single target near 8.4 million strength, and that fight decides whether you finish in one trip or fly home for repairs partway through.
Clear the eight kills in Hilo if the right level spawns are there. You are heading to that system anyway, and the objective counts kills rather than locations, so there is no reason to chase targets elsewhere. Anything below level 45 does not count toward the total.
Go in with a healthy hull. Two fights back to back, one of them a heavy hitter, will finish off a ship that started the trip already dented. Flying back for repairs from 135 warp out is a long round trip, and it is the main thing that turns a one session mission into a two day errand.
