The Hitchhiker is a level 67 mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, picked up in Sassafras. A man named Xander pays you to protect him and help hide something from the bad people chasing him, and it turns out to be Latinum he stole from his own captain, Sigrid. It needs warp 1400 to start and to complete, includes a hostile hunt and one ship fight, and splits on whether you tell Sigrid where the loot is buried. Either way you fight Sigrid, and the rewards differ.
The Hitchhiker objectives
Five objectives come before the split:
- Set a course for Kerth. Location: Sassafras.
- Defeat 10 hostiles of level 66 or higher.
- Set a course for Cor’Tun. Location: Cor’Tun.
- Bury the loot on Cha’Rix. Location: Cor’Tun.
- What should we do? (choice split)
Xander wants to bury his goods at Kerth, but ten ships arrive on an intercept course before he can. Those are the hostile objective. He moves on to Cor’Tun, and you beam him down to Cha’Rix, the one M-class planet there, to bury what your crew bluntly calls stolen goods.
Then Sigrid hails. Xander was her first mate, and the goods are her Latinum. She offers you more than Xander if you tell her where the loot is. Xander begs you to stay quiet.

Sigrid attacks on both paths: if you reveal the location, she does not want loose ends, and if you refuse, she decides to remove you and search herself. Her ship is listed at about 7.5 billion strength. Once she is gone, Xander digs up the loot, pays you and heads for Risa.

The mission is picked up in Sassafras, and the rest happens in Cor’Tun. Both the start and the finish need warp 1400. The recommended level is 67, and the hostiles must be level 66 or higher.

The Hitchhiker is one of three level 67 missions that pay no Fraktionsruf. Keeping Xander’s secret gives the largest Tritanium payout of the three.

Tips
Your choice does not change the fight, since Sigrid attacks either way. Pick by reward: Σ-Parsteel and Iso-emulsion for Σ-resource and research needs, or Tritanium plus the Coffee Mug.
The hostile count is only 10, lower than most missions at this level, and any hostile of level 66 or higher counts.
