Red Tape is a five-part Strange New Worlds chain in which a simple diplomacy job turns into a mining dispute between the Egoni and the Schrak, complete with ministry paperwork. All five parts are recommended for level 34. The chain starts in Durchman, and warp to complete is 27 for the first four parts and 30 for the last. The officer reward is SNW La’an Noonien-Singh shards in Part 2, and the resource payouts are large, especially Parsteel. Expect two big donations and some of the heaviest ship fights among the level 34 chains.

Red Tape Part 1
Die Enterprise has what looks like an easy diplomacy mission. You scan the planet in Durchman, meet Starfleet’s contact in Januu and head to the mining field in Thama.

Red Tape Part 2
The crew gets a taste of Egoni bureaucracy. You defend the mining field in Thama, talk to the foreman, fund the operation and take the matter to the Ministry of Requisitions in Januu.

- Donate 22M Parsteel to the mining operation.
- Proceed to the Ministry of Requisitions (Januu).

Red Tape Part 3
The requisition needs a signature, and finding it takes you to Azati to investigate the Schrak ships and clear 10 hostiles.
- Return to the mining field (Thama).
- Set a course for Azati.
- Investigate the Schrak ships (Azati).

Red Tape Part 4
Now you work with the Schrak. You speak with them in Azati, pay to repair their ships, then carry the result back to the foreman and the Ministry.

- Donate 3M Tritanium to repair the Schrak ships.
- Return to the foreman (Thama).
- Return to the Ministry of Requisitions (Januu).
Warp to complete: 27. Rewards: 230 3★ Interceptor Parts, 12,621,000 Parsteel and 1,500 3★ Raw Erze.
Red Tape Part 5
The conflict escalates. After reporting to Starfleet and returning to the mining field, you have to decide how to handle the Egoni and the Schrak.
- Report to Starfleet (Januu).
- Return to the mining field (Thama).
Warp to complete: 30. The Egoni leader Tuvell and the Schrak leader Xurl both want the mining field. You can side against one of them or refuse to take sides, and each path ends with a debrief in Andoria and a return to Durchman.
Side with the Schrak
- Disable Tuvell’s ship (Thama, enemy strength ~937,932).
- Speak with Xurl (Thama).
- Debrief the Admiral (Andoria).
- Return to Durchman.
Rewards: 1,702,000 Officer XP, 1,702,000 Tritanium and 250x 15 Minute Speed Up.
Side with the Egoni
- Disable Xurl’s ship (Thama, enemy strength ~910,378).
- Speak with Tuvell (Thama).
- Debrief the Admiral (Andoria).
- Return to Durchman.
Rewards: 330 Ship XP, 330 3★ Survey Parts and 1,702,000 Tritanium.
Stay neutral
- Defend yourself from the Egoni ship (Thama, enemy strength ~937,932).
- Defend yourself from the Schrak ship (Thama, enemy strength ~910,378).
- Debrief the Admiral (Andoria).
- Return to Durchman.
Rewards: 1x 1 Day Peace Shield, 341,000 Dilithium and 80 Premium Recruit Token.
Siding with the Schrak means disabling Tuvell’s Egoni ship, and siding with the Egoni means disabling Xurl’s Schrak ship. Staying neutral is the hardest route, since both sides open fire and you have to beat both ships. The first path pays the most on paper, with 1,702,000 Officer XP and 1,702,000 Tritanium.
Tips for completing Red Tape
The fights in this chain are listed between roughly 903,000 and 938,000 enemy strength, well above most level 34 chains. There is one in Part 2 and one or two in Part 5, depending on your choice, so bring your best combat ship.
Stockpile before Part 2. The mining donation is 22 million Parsteel, and Part 4 asks for 3 million Tritanium for the Schrak repairs. Part 2 pays back 15.4 million Parsteel and Part 4 another 12.6 million.
Travel is simple. Most objectives bounce between Thama, Januu and Azati at warp 27, and Part 5 only stretches to warp 30 for the debrief in Andoria.
Part 3 asks for 10 hostiles of level 34 or higher, the only hostile quota in the chain.
Are the Red Tape rewards worth it?
Yes, if you can cover the donations. The chain pays about 30.9 million Parsteel, 2.8 million Dilithium, 188,000 Officer XP and SNW La’an Noonien-Singh shards before Part 5, and the Schrak path in Part 5 adds another 1.7 million Officer XP and 1.7 million Tritanium.
