On the Verge is a level 55 Klingon Science Group (KSG) mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where K’ulass finally shows you Species Qui’Tu, the creatures behind his research. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 285 to complete, with stops in Magnamia, Santesso and Zameda. There are three objectives and no fights. The reward is 500 Klingon Recruit Tokens, 24,300,000 Tritanium and Klingon reputation, and it unlocks Ethical Concerns. It is a short trip that moves the KSG story forward quickly.
On the Verge objectives
K’ulass has backups of his research logs from the original Kos’Karii Engine prototype, but he needs fresh samples from Species Qui’Tu. The species has been kept secret, which is why you were never allowed into restricted space. Now he is willing to break protocol.
- Examine the species. Location: Magnamia.
- Find the Progenitor cache. Location: Santesso.
- Meet with K’ulass. Location: Zameda.
The Qui’Tu are weak, fearful prey animals with no natural predators. Their cells duplicate perfectly and fast, so they heal from almost any injury and resist most diseases, and K’ulass sees them as the path to Klingon scientific dominance. While he collects samples, Maia cuts the link to him after picking up a Progenitor signal nearby.
The signal is a Progenitor Daten cache, similar to the data pods found during the Alpha invasion. It shows the Progenitors experimented on local life here during the war and took an interest in the Qui’Tu too. Maia suggests keeping this from the KSG for now. Back with K’ulass, he has stem cells, blood, skin and saliva samples but will not say how he got them, and Ad’otha arrives to accuse him of exploiting a living species. There is no choice split.

No pickup system is listed, and the mission starts at warp 1. You need warp 285 to complete it, since all three objectives are out in Magnamia, Santesso and Zameda. The recommended level is 55.

Tips
Nothing here is a fight, so any ship with warp 285 can finish the mission. A survey or mining ship with the range works as well as a battleship.
Ethical Concerns follows straight after at the same warp, and it does include combat: 14 hostiles of level 49 or higher. If you plan to run both in one session, take a combat ship now to save swapping later.
