Combat Training 38: Veteran is the final level 38 combat training mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. You defeat one hostile captain at roughly 1,385,777 power, with warp 1 to start and finish. The game lists a recommended level of 1, but that captain’s strength is the real requirement. The reward is 28,000,000 Dilithium, eighteen 8 Hour Speed Ups, 1,400 Ultra Recruit Tokens and 4 Nero shards. Finishing it unlocks Combat Training 39: Rookie.
Combat Training 38: Veteran objectives
The story line is shared by every combat training mission: test your skills in battle against escalating difficulties of hostile enemies. There is one objective and no choice split:
- Defeat the hostile captain. Enemy strength is roughly 1,385,777.
Veteran steps are a single named target rather than a hostile count. The mission assigns the captain’s location when you take it on, so follow the mission marker to the fight.

Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no fixed system. The warp listing does not limit you; the captain’s power does.
At about 1.39 million power, this captain is far beyond what early ships can handle. Treat it as a late-game fight and bring your strongest combat ship.

Completing the mission also unlocks Kampftraining 39: Rookie.
Eighteen 8 Hour Speed Ups come to 144 hours, or six full days of speed up time. For long builds at this stage that is often worth more than the Dilithium.

The captain at level 38 is more than two and a half times as strong as the level 33 one, and by level 40 it passes two million. The Dilithium reward grows even faster than the captain’s strength.
Tips
Repair fully before engaging. It is one fight, and losing it means a full repair and another attempt.
