Combat Strategy 101

Combat Strategy 101 is a three-part mission chain in which you teach combat to the cadets of the U.S.S. Athena as a guest lecturer at their 32nd-century Academy. The module runs from a holodeck lesson to live training against Academy drones and a final exam in Duo Wave Defense. All three parts are recommended for level 61 and start at warp 1, but the warp needed to complete climbs from 1 to 900 and then 1,000. The chain pays an Academy Field Pass in each of the first two parts, a shard of Caleb Mir or Genesis Lythe by choice, and 100 Enhanced Section 31 Transmitters at the end.

Combat Strategy 101 at a glance

Combat Strategy 101 Part 1 61 1 71,000 Latinum, 1 Academy Field Pass
Combat Strategy 101 Part 2 61 900 1,400 Simulation Codes, Caleb Mir or Genesis Lythe shard

Every part starts at warp 1, and completing one part opens the next.

Combat Strategy 101 Part 1

You help the cadets with their combat training. After presenting your lesson plan to the Doctor, the first class happens in the holodeck, with a lesson on approaching hostile ships and a practice fight.

  • Present your lesson plan.
  • Proceed to the Holodeck.
  • Open a line of communication.
  • Defeat the Academy drone (enemy strength ~2,618,077,029).
  • Supervise the cadets.

Warp to complete: 1. Rewards: 2,600 Σ-Parsteel, 71,000 Latinum, 2 1 Day Peace Shield, 1 Academy Field Pass.

Combat Strategy 101 Part 2

The cadets get competitive. At the training ground in Itraneia, Caleb and Darem turn the drone exercise into a race, and you decide who to keep an eye on.

  • Proceed to the training ground, in Itraneia.
  • Choose what to do.

The two paths differ in their middle step and in which officer shard you receive.

Keep an eye on Caleb and Darem

  • Follow Caleb and Darem, in Zehux.
  • Defeat 10 hostiles of level 61 or higher.
  • Regroup with the others, in Itraneia.

Rewards: 2,000 Σ-Tritanium, 65,000 6★ Broken Interceptor Parts, 1,400 Simulation Codes, 1 Academy Field Pass, 1x Caleb Mir (shards).

Stick with the rest of the cadets

  • Follow the strange signal, in Zehux.
  • Donate 400 Σ-Dilithium to decode the signal.
  • Regroup with the others, in Itraneia.

Rewards: 2,000 Σ-Tritanium, 65,000 6★ Broken Interceptor Parts, 1,400 Simulation Codes, 1 Academy Field Pass, 1x Genesis Lythe (shards).

Warp to complete: 900.

Combat Strategy 101 Part 3

The cadets sit their final exam. The exam is a Duo Wave Defense simulation, and an interfering signal leads you to one more real fight in Patovef.

  • Return to your Station.
  • Participate in Duo Wave Defense near the Itraneia system.
  • Follow the interfering signal, in Patovef.
  • Disable the hostile ship, in Patovef (enemy strength ~2,643,533,500).
  • Report back.

Warp to complete: 1,000. Rewards: 1,000 Σ-Dilithium, 100 Enhanced Section 31 Transmitter, 2,500 Commander XP, 2 1 Day Speed Up.

Tips for completing Combat Strategy 101

Part 1 never leaves warp 1, so it can be done right away. The Academy drone fight is listed at about 2,618,077,029 strength, so use a proper combat ship even though it is a lesson.

The Part 2 choice decides your officer shard. Following Caleb and Darem costs ten level 61 hostiles and pays a Caleb Mir shard. Following the signal costs 400 Σ-Dilithium and pays a Genesis Lythe shard. Everything else is the same.

Part 3 needs warp 1,000 and a Duo Wave Defense run near Itraneia before the last fight in Patovef, at roughly 2,643,533,500 strength. Plan for the Wave Defense step, since it is a different activity from a normal mission objective.

Are the Combat Strategy 101 rewards worth it?

Yes. Two Academy Field Passes, 71,000 Latinum, 1,400 Simulation Codes and a Caleb Mir or Genesis Lythe shard make a good package, and Part 3 adds 100 Enhanced Section 31 Transmitters and 1,000 Σ-Dilithium. The hardest parts are the warp 1,000 finale and the Wave Defense step. For other level 61 chains, see the STFC mission guide.
