Bearer of Bad News is a Star Trek Fleet Command mission where you retrieve Shiio from Unoma so she can resume Serinn’s research. The game lists a recommended level of 1, it starts at warp 1 and needs warp 22, and everything happens in Unoma. A Starfleet agent wants Shiio too, and you decide whether to disable the agent’s ship or Shiio’s. Both paths pay 274,000 Tritanium, plus either Parsteel or Dilithium.
Bearer of Bad News objectives
The mission opens with one shared step and a choice:
- Go to Shiio’s last known location. Location: Unoma.
- Choose how to deal with the Starfleet Agent.
When you arrive, a Starfleet agent is already there to take Shiio into custody and asks you to stand down. Your crew argues that Shiio’s research is needed against the Borg, so the choice is between keeping her with you and handing her over.
Protect Shiio
- Disable the Starfleet Agent’s vessel. Location: Unoma (enemy strength about 347,055).
- Return to your Station with Shiio.
Rewards for this path: 1,861,000 Parsteel and 274,000 Tritanium.
Help the agent
- Disable Shiio’s vessel. Location: Unoma (enemy strength about 356,340).
- Return to your Station with Shiio.
Rewards for this path: 55,000 Dilithium and 274,000 Tritanium.
Where and what warp
You can accept it at warp 1. Warp 22 is needed to complete it, which is what it takes to reach Unoma.
The recommended level is 1. Both fights are around 350,000 strength, so either path needs a ship that can win at that level.
Bearer of Bad News rewards
| Choice | Rewards |
|---|---|
| Protect Shiio | 1,861,000 Parsteel, 274,000 Tritanium |
| Help the agent | 55,000 Dilithium, 274,000 Tritanium |
Either path unlocks Cold and Hunted, the next mission.
Missions before and after
The mission before this one is Echoes of Torana, also recommended at level 1 with a warp 22 finish; it pays 58,000 Dilithium and 250 3★ Explorer Parts. Cold and Hunted, which follows, drops the finish to warp 13.
Tips
The two fights are almost the same strength, so choose by reward. Protecting Shiio pays far more in total, with over 1.8 million Parsteel against 55,000 Dilithium. Pick helping the agent only if Dilithium is what you are short of.
The final step on both paths is the same, returning to your station with Shiio, so the story ends with her aboard either way. What you choose decides who you fight and what you are paid.
Both paths are one fight and a trip home. Go into Unoma repaired, since the fight follows directly after the choice.
Every step away from home is in Unoma, so the whole mission is a single round trip. For other missions by level, see the mission guide.
