Actian Chrysalis

The Actian Chrysalis is an Actian hostile in Star Trek Fleet Command that you fight from level 33 to 49 across seventeen levels of Actian space, starting at warp 40 in Donscheel, Azuras, Norght and Boneshi and ending at warp 143 in Yunke. It always spawns as an Explorer, so the counter never changes: bring a Battleship. Each kill drops Actian Venom, and some Chrysalis spawns add a single Cytotoxin Slime. Its partner, the Actian Apex, shares the same systems as an Interceptor.

Where to find the Actian Chrysalis

Actian systems form a ladder, one level per step, and each step needs a bit more warp. The level 33 to 35 ships all sit at warp 40, and Donscheel carries all three of those levels, which makes it the easiest place to start. From level 36 each level has its own system, and warp climbs through the 100 to 145 band in the level 40s. Level 49 in Yunke needs slightly less warp (143) than level 48 in Anómiria (145).

Level Warp Systems Actian Venom per kill
33 40 Donscheel, Azuras 103 to 126
34 40 Donscheel, Norght 124 to 151
35 40 Donscheel, Boneshi (warp 52) 180 to 220
36 56 Ra’kond 248 to 303
37 58 Khajilat 288 to 352
38 60 Geody 329 to 402
39 70 Blascans 421 to 515
40 85 Pomst 563 to 688
41 100 Vorstoch 709 to 867
42 105 O’Reigns 805 to 983
43 115 Bolkano 900 to 1,100
44 125 Gerezdho 1,035 to 1,265
45 130 Idoz 1,170 to 1,430
46 135 Vishirë 1,440 to 1,760
47 140 Namra 1,710 to 2,090
48 145 Anómiria 2,295 to 2,805
49 143 Yunke 2,880 to 3,520

How to beat the Actian Chrysalis

The Actian Chrysalis only shows up as an Explorer hull, so bring a Battleship every time. Battleships beat Explorers, and there is nothing to swap between levels. It has no ship ability and no listed vulnerability, so the fight comes down to your ship’s stats against its own.

The thing to watch is scale. At level 49 the Chrysalis holds about 2.1 billion hull and 2.7 billion shield, so an under-built Battleship stalls out even with the type advantage. Bring a warship close to or above the level you plan to fight, and check the stats table below before you commit to the higher targets.

Actian crew

For crew, aim for a captain who raises weapon damage against hostiles, plus officers who add damage or help your ship absorb hits. At the lower levels the classic cadet crew (Cadet Kirk as captain with Cadet Spock and Cadet Uhura) can still work on these, but by the high 40s you will want a stronger lineup. Because the Chrysalis only fires one weapon per round and saves its heaviest volley for every fourth round (see the firing pattern below), a crew that adds mitigation or hull repair gets real value here. For picks that match your roster and level, check the officer tier list. Crew choices move with the meta, so treat any single suggestion as a starting point.

Actian Chrysalis firing pattern

The Chrysalis cycles through four weapons, one per round. Its three Energy weapons fire one after another on consecutive rounds, then the Kinetic weapon fires a nine-shot volley on the next round, and the cycle repeats every four rounds. That Kinetic volley is the big hit, so it is the round to plan mitigation around.

Weapon type Count Damage per shot (level 33) Shots Fires Crit
Energy 3 4,917 to 6,009 4 each Once every 4 rounds, staggered one per round 10% (1.8x)
Kinetic 1 20,193 to 23,505 9 Once every 4 rounds, after the Energy shots 10% (1.8x)

At level 49 the Kinetic volley hits for 769,693 to 940,721 per shot, and one of the three Energy weapons climbs to the same range, so the late-game Chrysalis has two heavy rounds per cycle instead of one.

Rewards and what it drops

Actian Venom is the reason to fight the Chrysalis. The amount scales steeply with level, from 103 to 126 per kill at level 33 to 2,880 to 3,520 at level 49. Cytotoxin Slime drops one at a time and only from some Chrysalis spawns, so do not count on it as a steady source. Ship XP rises from 627 at level 33 to 957 at level 41 and 1,352 at level 49.

Drop What it is
Actian Venom The main Actian material from these kills; the amount grows with the hostile’s level.
Cytotoxin Slime A rarer Actian drop, one per kill when it appears.

Actian Chrysalis stats

Stats climb steeply with level. Total strength runs from about 28 million at level 33 to about 480 million at level 41, then past 2.4 billion at level 49. If your ship’s stats sit well below the row for the level you want, drop down a few levels first.

Level Total strength Hull HP Shield HP Attack Defense Ship XP
33 28,188,330 24,260,715 30,877,290 97,632 521,695 627
41 480,656,556 414,177,446 527,135,200 1,093,933 8,906,300 957
49 2,448,558,129 2,122,033,973 2,700,771,890 4,591,968 32,563,230 1,352

Actian hostiles and systems

Three Actian hostiles exist. The Chrysalis and the Actian Apex share the same seventeen systems, one level per system, so a single trip through Actian space can farm both. The Apex is an Interceptor, so it needs an Explorer instead of a Battleship, and it pays about six times more Actian Venom per kill than the Chrysalis at the same level. The third, the Actian Instigator, has no fixed system: it appears between levels 28 and 52 through events rather than on the map.

Apex level Warp System Actian Venom per kill
33 45 Azuras 618 to 756
34 48 Norght 743 to 908
35 52 Boneshi 1,080 to 1,320
36 56 Ra’kond 1,485 to 1,815
37 58 Khajilat 1,728 to 2,112
38 60 Geody 1,971 to 2,409
39 70 Blascans 2,527 to 3,089
40 85 Pomst 3,375 to 4,125
41 100 Vorstoch 4,255 to 5,201
42 105 O’Reigns 4,828 to 5,900
43 115 Bolkano 5,400 to 6,600
44 125 Gerezdho 6,210 to 7,590
45 130 Idoz 7,020 to 8,580
46 135 Vishirë 8,640 to 10,560
47 140 Namra 10,260 to 12,540
48 145 Anómiria 13,770 to 16,830
49 143 Yunke 17,280 to 21,120

At levels 33 to 35 the Apex only sits in Azuras, Norght and Boneshi, and it needs a little more warp than the Chrysalis (45 to 52). From level 36 up, both hostiles share each system and warp exactly.

Who the Actians are

The Actians are one of the hostile groups you run into as you expand through this corner of the map. The Chrysalis is one of their Explorer-class warships, set to guard Actian systems, and the venom and slime you strip from it feed Actian progress. They are an in-game faction rather than a species from the television shows, so treat them as local opposition to clear out rather than familiar canon. The Actian Brood mission is an early introduction to them.

Is the Actian Chrysalis worth grinding?

If you need Actian Venom, yes. The Chrysalis is a single-hull target, which removes the guesswork from crewing: load a Battleship and go. If your Explorer is stronger than your Battleship, farm the Apex in the same systems instead for more venom per kill. Match your warp to the level you want and it is an easy, repeatable kill. For other factions and level bands, the hostile guide lists every hub.
