A Word of Discouragement is a late Federation story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. After a tactical briefing with Captain Beckett, you choose whether to intimidate the Klingons’ Gorn allies or the Romulans’ Corvallen allies, delivering a warning and then defeating a guard of about 7.4 million strength. The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 120 to complete. The game lists a recommended level of 1, but warp 120 and the guard fight are the real bar. Both paths pay 900 4★ Common ship parts and a large Federation standing gain.
A Word of Discouragement objectives
Two shared objectives come first:
- Attend the tactical briefing with Captain Beckett on Thesos. Location: Izbrig.
- Choose which supporting faction to intimidate. This is the choice split.
Intimidate the Gorn
- Deliver the warning to the Gorn on Kagil. Location: Annalu.
- Defeat the Gorn guard. Location: Ch’Kmulk. Enemy strength is roughly 7,414,271.
Rewards: 900 4★ Common Explorer Parts, 600 Federation Credits, 538,000 Federation Points, -890,928 Klingon Points and -197,984 Romulan Points.
Intimidate the Corvallens
- Deliver the warning to the Corvallens on Mana’ri. Location: Veisa.
- Defeat the Corvallen guard. Location: Veisa. Enemy strength is roughly 7,482,395.
Rewards: 900 4★ Common Battleship Parts, 600 Federation Credits, 538,000 Federation Points, -890,928 Klingon Points and -197,984 Romulan Points.
Where and what warp
The mission appears at warp 1, and completing it needs warp 120. The briefing is in Izbrig. The Gorn path then runs through Annalu and Ch’Kmulk; the Corvallen path stays in Veisa for both steps.
The recommended level is listed as 1. A guard fight of about 7.4 to 7.5 million strength is the practical requirement.

Which ally to intimidate
The faction points are identical on both paths, so the choice does not change your standing. Pick by ship part type: Explorer parts from the Gorn path, Battleship parts from the Corvallen path.
The fights are almost the same strength, with the Corvallen guard about 68,000 points stronger. The Corvallen path is simpler to fly, since both of its steps are in Veisa, while the Gorn path adds a second system.
Where it sits in the story
A Word of Discouragement follows Kal’Hyah, where you bombard a Kal’Hyah ceremony alongside Captain Beckett, and leads into Reciprocation, where the Klingons retaliate. Kal’Hyah needs warp 160 and Reciprocation warp 170, so this mission is the lowest warp of the three. Reciprocation also asks for a 33M Tritanium donation and a fight against Grenon of about 7,227,080.
Tips
Watch the Klingon loss. Nearly 891,000 Klingon Points come off on either path, which is a heavy hit if you work with the Klingons.
