A Hunter Must Hunt is a three-part mission chain in which you investigate Hirogen attacks on the Vaadwaur, trap a Hirogen Hunter to bargain with, and then protect the Vaadwaur and Lieutenant Midral from the Hirogen. All three parts are recommended for level 35. You pick the chain up in Tolonus at warp 26, and the parts finish between warp 26 and warp 28. Rewards include a Tom Paris shard, 25,333,000 Parsteel, 102,000 Officer XP and two batches of 3★ Battleship Parts. The fights are light, and the costs are one Tritanium and one Dilithium donation.

A Hunter Must Hunt Part 1
Investigate the attacks against the Vaadwaur. A missing sergeant’s ship in Antaria leaves a warp trail to the Think Tank, where the Hirogen are waiting.
- Find the sergeant’s ship in Antaria.
- Follow the warp trail to the Think Tank.
- Destroy the Hirogen ship at the Think Tank (enemy strength ~531,649).
- Defeat 3 Hirogen Hunters of level 35 or higher.
- Report to Lieutenant Midral in Tolonus.
Warp to complete: 26. Rewards: 280 3★ Battleship Parts, 102,000 Officer XP, 1,794,000 Tritanium.
A Hunter Must Hunt Part 2
Capture a Hirogen Hunter to negotiate with the Vaadwaur. You set a trap in Monea, wait for it to spring, and bring the captured Hirogen to Lieutenant Midral.
- Find a place for the trap in Monea.
- Donate 5M Tritanium to create a trap.
- Wait for the trap to work in Monea.
- Disable a Hirogen ship in Monea (enemy strength ~527,149).
- Deliver the Hirogen to Lieutenant Midral in Tolonus.
Warp to complete: 28. Rewards: 500 3★ Explorer Parts, 608,000 Dilithium, 400 Federation Recruit Token.
A Hunter Must Hunt Part 3
Protect the Vaadwaur from the Hirogen. After fighting off the Hunters and a Hirogen ship in Tolonus, you draw the rest away to the Think Tank, cover your warp trail and escort the Lieutenant to Ba’Neth.
- Defeat 5 Hirogen Hunters of level 35 or higher.
- Destroy a Hirogen ship in Tolonus (enemy strength ~531,649).
- Lead the Hirogen away from the Vaadwaur to the Think Tank.
- Donate 500K Dilithium to hide the warp trail.
- Escort the Lieutenant to a safer place in Ba’Neth.
Warp to complete: 26. Rewards: 1 Tom Paris shard, 600 3★ Battleship Parts, 25,333,000 Parsteel.
Tips for completing A Hunter Must Hunt
You need warp 26 just to pick the chain up in Tolonus, and nothing goes past warp 28 after that, so a ship that reaches Tolonus can run the whole chain.
The Hirogen Hunter objectives count only Hunters of level 35 or higher: 3 in Part 1 and 5 in Part 3. The named Hirogen ships are all around 530,000 strength.
Budget 5M Tritanium for the trap in Part 2 and 500K Dilithium in Part 3. Part 1 pays 1,794,000 Tritanium and Part 2 pays 608,000 Dilithium, so the Dilithium cost is covered before you reach it.
