A Friend in Need is a late Romulan-aligned mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you help a Kriosian ally against the Klingons. It is picked up in Veisa and needs warp 120 to start and to finish, with the action in Hannlaw and Rixos. Two fights, a Klingon patrol and a Klingon Captain, both sit above 9 million strength. The reward is 110 4★ Uncommon Refined Ore, 800 Romulan Credits and 775,000 Romulan Points, paid for with a large loss of Federation and Klingon reputation.
A Friend in Need objectives
The story line is “Assist a Kriosian ally.” There are five objectives and no choice split:
- Find the informant. Location: Hannlaw.
- Defeat the Klingon patrol. Location: Hannlaw. Enemy strength is roughly 9,254,282.
- Track down the Klingon hunting party. Location: Rixos.
- Defeat the Klingon Captain. Location: Rixos. Enemy strength is roughly 9,550,149.
- Return to the Kriosian colony. Location: Hannlaw.
The mission goes Hannlaw, Rixos, then back to Hannlaw. You meet the informant and fight off a Klingon patrol in Hannlaw, chase the hunting party into Rixos and beat its Captain, then return to the Kriosian colony. Both fights are very large, and the Captain is the slightly stronger of the two.
Where and what warp
A Friend in Need is accepted in Veisa, and warp 120 is required both to pick it up and to complete it. Unlike missions that can be picked up at warp 1, this one needs the full warp range before you can even accept it. The route after pickup uses only Hannlaw and Rixos.
The mission data lists a recommended level of 1, which is not a useful guide here. Two fights above 9.2 million strength put this mission at the far end of the game.

Tips
Only take this on with a ship built for fights above 9 million strength. There are two of them, and the second is tougher than the first.
Weigh the Federation loss. At 1,350,000 Federation Points, the cost is well over the Romulan gain, so it suits an account that has committed to the Romulans.
