A Fresh Start is a Star Trek Fleet Command mission in which you help a retired Starfleet officer find a new home for a group of refugees. It is picked up in Vita Nova, needs warp 80 to start and warp 105 to complete, and is listed at recommended level 1. The route takes the refugees through Tovla and Imada, with two sets of level 43 hostiles and a bandit leader at about 912,580 strength along the way. At the end you choose where they settle, for either 300 1M Parsteel Tokens or 120 100K Dilithium Tokens, plus a Deep Space Datapad either way.

A Fresh Start objectives

The first six steps are shared:

  • Bring the refugees to Tovla. Location: Tovla.
  • Defeat 8 hostiles of level 43 or higher.
  • Bring the refugees to Imada. Location: Imada.
  • Defeat 8 hostiles of level 43 or higher.
  • Defeat the bandit leader. Location: Imada. Enemy strength is roughly 912,580.
  • Where should the refugees settle?

The last question is a choice split, and each answer has a single final step.

Path 1: settle in Hannlaw

  • Bring the refugees to their new home. Location: Hannlaw.

Path 2: settle in Imada

  • Bring the refugees to their new home. Location: Imada.

Path 2 keeps the refugees in Imada, where you have just beaten the bandit leader, so it ends without another jump. Path 1 moves them on to Hannlaw.

Where and what warp

A Fresh Start is picked up in Vita Nova. It needs warp 80 to start and warp 105 to complete, and the systems come in this order: Tovla, Imada, then Hannlaw on Path 1. The listed recommended level of 1 is not a real guide. The level 43 hostiles, the 912,580-strength bandit leader and the warp 105 finish are what decide when you can run it.

A Fresh Start rewards

Path Rewards
Path 1: settle in Hannlaw 300 1M Parsteel Token, 1 Deep Space Datapad
Path 2: settle in Imada 120 100K Dilithium Token, 1 Deep Space Datapad

Either path unlocks the next mission in the storyline.

Which path to pick

Going by the token names, Path 1 is worth 300 million Parsteel and Path 2 is worth 12 million Dilithium. Both include the Deep Space Datapad, so the choice is only about which resource you need.

Measured against a building upgrade, the Dilithium goes further. Operations 43, for example, lists a base cost of 14.93 billion Parsteel and 45.75 million Dilithium: Path 2’s 12 million Dilithium covers about a quarter of that Dilithium, while Path 1’s 300 million Parsteel covers about 2% of the Parsteel. Unless Parsteel is your specific bottleneck, Path 2 is the better pick. Path 2 also saves the final jump to Hannlaw.

Tips

Bring a combat ship built for level 43 targets. There are 16 kills in total, split into two sets of 8, before the bandit leader.

Repair before the bandit leader. At about 912,580 strength it is the hardest fight in the mission, and it comes straight after the second kill count.

Tovla also appears in What Are You Hiding?, and Vita Nova is where Caught in the Crossfire sends you, so you may already know the route. Every mission by level is on the mission guide.
