A Cloak of Feathers is a standalone Star Trek Fleet Command mission where you steal a transponder to mask one of your ships as Romulan and prepare for a trip into enemy territory. All three objectives are in Yadalla, and the last one is a fight against the Hobus scout at roughly 2.1 million strength. The game lists a recommended level of 1, but the mission needs warp 38 to finish. The reward is 40,000 Tritanium.
A Cloak of Feathers objectives
There are three objectives and no choice split:
- Acquire the illegal Romulan transponder on Benzar. Location: Yadalla.
- Scan the surface of Hobus. Location: Yadalla.
- Destroy the Hobus scout before they inform the Tal Shiar. Location: Yadalla. Enemy strength is roughly 2,104,711.
Benzar and Hobus are both places inside the Yadalla system, so the whole mission happens there. The first two steps are travel and scanning. The last is the only fight: a Hobus scout that has to be stopped before it reports to the Tal Shiar.
Where and what warp
There is no pickup system, and the mission becomes available at warp 1. Completing it needs warp 38, the range for Yadalla. One system for everything means a single trip out.
The recommended level shows as 1. The scout’s strength of about 2.1 million is the real test, and it is a lot higher than the modest warp suggests.
A Cloak of Feathers rewards
- 40,000 Tritanium
No follow-up mission is unlocked by completing it.
How it compares with other warp 38 missions
Several missions finish at warp 38 with a single fight. Current game data:
| Mission | Enemy strength | Main rewards |
|---|---|---|
| A Cloak of Feathers | About 2,104,711 | 40,000 Tritanium |
| Wire | About 2,104,711 | 24,752,000 Parsteel, 500 Klingon Credits |
| Last of the Giants | About 937,932 | 12 3★ Uncommon Refined Ore, 34 15 Minute Repair Speed Up, 500 Romulan Credits |
| Fake Empire | About 673,107 | 16 3 Hour Speed Up, 38 15 Minute Repair Speed Up, 500 Romulan Credits |
| Protect the Nest | About 415,226 | 11,570,000 Parsteel, 50 15 Minute Repair Speed Up, 350 Klingon Credits |
A Cloak of Feathers shares the toughest fight in the group with Wire, but pays far less. The others ask for weaker fights and pay faction credits or large Parsteel sums on top.
Is it worth doing?
Mostly for the story. Forty thousand Tritanium is small for a ship that can beat a 2.1 million strength target, and the mission does not open anything new. If you want the transponder storyline, run it when you are already in Yadalla or nearby. If you are after resources, most of the other warp 38 missions above pay better, and three of them ask for easier fights.
Tips
Do not bring a survey ship. The first two steps look harmless, but the scout at the end is at about 2.1 million strength, and it is the step that decides the mission.
Arrive repaired. Everything is in Yadalla, so the scout is the next thing you meet after scanning Hobus. Every mission by level is on the mission guide.
