Unfortunate Realities

Unfortunate Realities is a level 51 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you test a tachyonic pulse at the Vacuum Epicenter. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 205 to complete, and the one big cost is 10 million Dilithium to power the device. There is no fight. The reward is 6,020,834,000 Parsteel, 150 15 Hour Speed Ups and 2,500 Ship XP, and finishing it unlocks In the Failures of the Past. The Parsteel alone makes it worth the Dilithium.

Unfortunate Realities objectives

The story line is short: test the tachyonic pulse. There are three objectives and no choice split:

  • Approach the vacuum. Location: Vacuum Epicenter.
  • Ionize 10M Dilithium to power the device.
  • Activate the tachyon pulse. Location: Vacuum Epicenter.

You fly out to the Vacuum Epicenter, pay the Dilithium, and trigger the pulse. No hostile is listed at any step.

Where and what warp

The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 205 to complete. The Vacuum Epicenter is the only location, so the warp is the long trip out and nothing more.

The recommended level is 51. With no combat, the practical requirements are a ship with the range and 10 million Dilithium in your stores.

Unfortunate Realities rewards

Reward Amount
Parsteel 6,020,834,000
15 Hour Speed Up 150
Ship XP 2,500

Completing the mission also unlocks In the Failures of the Past.

Where it sits in the story

Mission Recommended level Warp to complete Rewards
The Horizons of Limitation 1 1 500 Premium Recruit Tokens, 12,500,000 Dilithium, 2,500 Ship XP
Unfortunate Realities 51 205 6,020,834,000 Parsteel, 150 15 Hour Speed Ups, 2,500 Ship XP
In the Failures of the Past 51 205 1 Data shard, 8,250,000 Dilithium

The Horizons of Limitation pays 12,500,000 Dilithium, more than the 10 million this mission asks you to ionize. If you run the two back to back, the earlier mission covers the cost of this one.

Tips

Check your Dilithium before you fly out. The ionize step is the only real cost, and running short at the Vacuum Epicenter means a trip home or a wait.

Send any ship with warp 205. Nothing here needs combat stats.

The 150 15 Hour Speed Ups add up to 2,250 hours, more than 93 days of timer. At level 51 those are best kept for the longest building or research upgrades.

In the Failures of the Past, the next mission, pays a Data shard. More missions by level are on the mission guide.
