The Brink of Madness is a level 65 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command and part of the Cult Eternus storyline. After the Cult takes Howards in Eternity Stricken, you gather intel on his location by helping people in Frontier space. The mission needs only warp 1 to start and to complete, asks you to finish five Planetary missions and donate five Planetary datapads, and pays 500 6★ Common Refined Ore and 689,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium. It is one of the bigger Σ-Tritanium payouts in this part of the story.
The Brink of Madness objectives
There are two objectives and no choice split:
- Complete 5 Planetary missions.
- Donate 5 Planetary datapads.
The story line specifies Planetary missions of level 60 or higher. Your crew reasons that the Cult has gone to great lengths to hide Howards, and that helping people across the Frontier may turn up information. Once you have the datapads, handing over five lets your crew try to pinpoint a Cult hideout.
Neither objective is tied to a system. The mission works in the background of your normal play: complete the Planetary missions, then make the donation.
Where and what warp
There is no pickup system, and both the start and the finish are at warp 1. Any travel comes from the Planetary missions you pick, not from this mission. The recommended level is 65.

This is the first of three missions in a row that you finish without a set warp trip, as the search for Howards moves from fighting to research and upgrades.

Tips
The story line asks for Planetary missions of level 60 or higher, so pick those when you work through the five.
Have five Planetary datapads on hand before the second step. The donation is the last thing standing between you and the reward, and the mission cannot finish without it.
