Taking Stock is a single mission built for level 59 commanders, and it sends you out to look over what a Borg engagement left behind. It opens close to home at warp 1 and finishes at warp 205, so range matters more here than firepower. Clearing all three objectives pays 500 Premium Recruit Tokens, 6,825,000,000 Parsteel, and 2,500 Ship XP.

Taking Stock objectives

There are three objectives, and they run in a fixed order:

  • Search for VESTA in the Zytallis system.
  • Investigate Borg activity in ZA-87B.
  • Return to your Station.

No branch or choice split appears anywhere in this one, so every commander runs the same three steps and collects the same payout. The first two objectives are travel and investigation in named systems, and the third sends you home, which makes the whole mission a question of whether your ship can make the trip out and back.

Where and what warp

The mission starts at warp 1, so picking it up costs you nothing in range. Finishing it is the part to plan for: warp 205 to complete. That number is how far out the mission takes you at its furthest point, and it is the figure players check before accepting anything at this level.

Zytallis is the first system on the list, followed by ZA-87B for the Borg step. If your warp range tops out below 205, the mission will stall partway through while you go back and put more research or a better ship under it. Getting range up is a research and ship problem, not something you can talk your way around mid-mission.

Recommended level is 59. That is a guideline rather than a lock, but it lines up with the systems involved, and it is a reasonable read on whether the trip is going to be comfortable.

Taking Stock rewards

Reward Amount
Premium Recruit Token 500
Parsteel 6,825,000,000
Ship XP 2,500

The Parsteel is the headline. At 6.825 billion it lands as a genuine bankroll at this stage of the game, enough to move a building project along rather than just topping off a warehouse. The 500 Premium Recruit Tokens are the other half of the value, since token stockpiles are what let you pull on recruitment events when they land instead of watching them go by.

Ship XP at 2,500 is a smaller line, useful but not a reason to run the mission on its own. Completing Taking Stock also unlocks the next part in the chain, so it is a gate as well as a payout.

Tips

Check your warp range before you accept it. Warp 205 is the whole planning problem with this mission, and finding out you are short after you have already flown to Zytallis wastes a trip.

Have somewhere for the Parsteel to go. Nearly seven billion is easy to sit on and forget about, and it does more for you queued into an upgrade the day you finish than parked in storage. If your warehouse protection is low, spend it down rather than leaving it exposed.

Save the recruit tokens for an event worth pulling on. Five hundred tokens is a real pull, and it goes further during a recruitment event tied to officers you actually want than it does spent the moment it lands.

Run it in the same session as your other level 59 work. The final objective walks you back to your Station anyway, so it slots in cleanly next to anything else you have queued at home.
