Shoot the Messenger is a single mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you defend your station from the fanatics and chase them down. The recommended level is 1, it can be picked up at warp 1, and it needs warp 135 to complete. You pursue the fanatics to LSP-539, clear 15 hostiles of level 45 or higher, then defeat the Fanatic Messenger in Perralon 472. The reward is 7,560,000 Dilithium and 500 4★ Common Refined Crystal, and the Dilithium alone is reason enough to run it.
Shoot the Messenger objectives
There are four objectives and no choice split:
- Pursue the fanatics to LSP-539. Location: LSP-539.
- Defeat 15 hostiles of Level 45 or higher.
- Travel to the next system. Location: Perralon 472.
- Defeat the Fanatic Messenger. Location: Perralon 472.
The mission has two combat stages. The first is a hostile-clearing objective: 15 kills against hostiles of level 45 or higher. The mission data gives no system for it. The second is a named fight against the Fanatic Messenger in Perralon 472. The mission data does not list a strength for the Messenger.
Where and what warp
Shoot the Messenger needs warp 1 to start and warp 135 to complete. The route runs from LSP-539 to Perralon 472, and warp 135 is the figure to plan around. The recommended level is listed as 1, but the level 45 hostile requirement is the better guide to the ship you need.

Where it sits in the storyline
Shoot the Messenger sits between Misappropriation and Enter the Man. The three missions pay in very different ways:

Misappropriation follows a Progenitor signal into Romulan space, and Shoot the Messenger turns to the fanatics who have come for your station. Enter the Man then asks you to convince an overconfident Independent to stand down. The warp requirement actually drops across the three, from 150 to 135 to 110.
Tips
Clear the 15 hostiles efficiently. The objective asks for hostiles of level 45 or higher. Pick a ship and a hunting spot you already use for hostiles at that level.
Save some hull for the Messenger. The named fight comes straight after the hostile grind and a jump to Perralon 472, and the mission data gives no strength figure for it, so repair before the jump if the grind has worn your ship down.
The Dilithium is the headline. At 7,560,000 it is a big single payout, and the 500 4★ Common Refined Crystal is a useful extra for anyone saving toward 4★ upgrades. For every other mission by level, see the mission guide.
