Resourceful Ally

Resourceful Ally is the second mission of the Grotoq storyline in Star Trek Fleet Command, recommended for level 4. Grotoq’s unsanctioned Klingon mining operation is short on hands, so he hires you to gather a consignment and keep Nausicaan raiders away. You choose which resource to mine, and the choice sets both the amount and the reward. It needs only warp 1 to start and finish. Michael Burnham warns you not to trust the Klingons, but the contract goes ahead.

Resourceful Ally objectives

There is one shared step, then a three-way choice:

  • Meet with the Klingon mining party.
  • Choose which resource to mine (choice split, see below).

Grotoq explains that the Klingon Empire does not support his digging in Independent space, so he is short of both people and mining ships. He says Parsteel and Tritanium are easy to find but Dilithium may be harder. Whichever you pick, the Nausicaans return as soon as you finish, and you are called in to defend the mining fleet.

Path 1: mine Parsteel

  • Mine 500 Parsteel.
  • Defeat the Nausicaan Raider. Enemy strength about 272.
  • Return to your Station.

Rewards: 20 Recruit Tokens, 5 5 Minute Repair Speed Ups.

Path 2: mine Tritanium

  • Mine 100 Tritanium.
  • Defeat the Nausicaan Raider. Enemy strength about 283.
  • Return to your Station.

Rewards: 2 15 Minute Repair Speed Ups, 70 Tritanium.

Path 3: mine Dilithium

  • Mine 50 Dilithium.
  • Defeat the Nausicaan Raider. Enemy strength about 272.
  • Return to your Station.

Rewards: 900 Parsteel.

Where and what warp

No pickup system or location is listed, and warp is 1 to start and finish. Grotoq asks you to gather from nearby systems. The recommended level is 4.

Each path has one Nausicaan Raider fight at about 272 to 283 strength.

Resourceful Ally rewards

Reward Mine Parsteel Mine Tritanium Mine Dilithium
Recruit Token 20 none none
5 Minute Repair Speed Up 5 none none
15 Minute Repair Speed Up none 2 none
Tritanium none 70 none
Parsteel none none 900

Completing any path unlocks Volatile Market, where the storyline’s first officer shard, Origins Saru, is waiting.

Tips

Pick the path you can finish fastest. Mining 100 Tritanium or 50 Dilithium is a smaller job than 500 Parsteel, but Grotoq warns that Dilithium may be harder to find at this stage.

If you want recruit tokens, the Parsteel path is the only one that pays them. The Dilithium path pays the most raw resources, 900 Parsteel.

Any ship that can mine and fight a raider of under 300 strength will do. The Grotoq story continues through Volatile Market, Hoarder and Intuition, which ends with an Origins Burnham shard. Every mission by level is on the mission guide.
