Remains of the Ancients is an early story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you investigate an anomaly detected in the Tellun system. It is recommended for level 4, needs only warp 5, and can be picked up in any of twelve starter systems. You follow a trail from Forhingre to Vinland and beat a Corvallen ship at roughly 283 strength. The reward is a Grace Chen shard and 160 Tritanium, a small but useful start for a new captain.
Remains of the Ancients objectives
There are three objectives and no choice split:
- Investigate the anomaly. Location: Forhingre.
- Go to the coordinates from the log. Location: Vinland.
- Defeat the Corvallen ship. Location: Vinland. Enemy strength is roughly 283.
The anomaly is in Forhingre, a level 5 neutral system. The log you recover there points you to Vinland, a level 4 neutral system, where a Corvallen ship waits. Beating it completes the mission; there is no return to your station.
Where and what warp
The mission can be picked up in Bridford, Estrada, Zukerat, Bohvanderro, Ruli, Landi, Laurgatt, Vinland, Baw, Aker, Benzi or Takik. All twelve are level 4 neutral systems. Warp 5 covers the start and the finish, and Forhingre is only one level higher, so the whole route stays among level 4 and 5 systems.
The recommended level is 4. The Corvallen ship at about 283 strength is a small fight, well suited to a starting ship.

About the Grace Chen shards
Grace Chen is an uncommon officer built for fighting hostiles. Her captain maneuver, Modifications, adds 20% to the ship’s dodge, shield deflection and armor against hostiles, and her officer ability, Energy Absorber, reduces the energy damage hostiles deal. Rank 1 needs 10 shards and rank 2 needs 30.
Several early missions pay one Grace Chen shard each. Current game data:
| Mission | Recommended level | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Remains of the Ancients | 4 | 1 Grace Chen shard, 160 Tritanium |
| No One Gets Left Behind | 4 | 1 Grace Chen shard, 20 Recruit Token |
| The Quarry | 4 | 1 Grace Chen shard |
| Trust Betrayed | 6 | 1 Grace Chen shard, 330 Officer XP |
| Revenge of the Ancients (Suliban battleship path) | 6 | 1 Grace Chen shard |
Running all of them adds up to 5 shards, halfway to rank 1.
Tips
Pick it up wherever you are. Twelve pickup systems means you will likely see it early, and the whole mission fits inside warp 5.
If you want every shard, note that Revenge of the Ancients asks you to choose a side at a derelict in Hosun, and only one side pays a Grace Chen shard. Other missions sorted by level are on the mission guide.
