R&D Department Level 45

R&D Department Level 45 is a base milestone mission in Star Trek Fleet Command that clears itself the moment your R&D Department finishes its upgrade to level 45. There is no travel, no target, and no combat anywhere in it. Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, and the payout is 70 100K Dilithium Tokens plus 60 8 Hour Speed Ups.

R&D Department Level 45 objectives

One objective, and the upgrade is the whole of it.

  • Upgrade to R&D Department Level 45. No system is attached to this step; the work happens in your base.

Nothing branches. No choice split, no enemy, no follow-up step hiding behind the first one. The mission watches the building and closes when the level 45 upgrade lands, so you never accept it from anyone and never turn it in.

Where and what warp

Warp 1 both ways: 1 to start, 1 to complete. Those are floor values, and they read that low because the objective carries no destination. Warp range never gates this mission at any point, whatever ship you happen to have parked.

The build queue is the real gate. A faster ship buys nothing here, and there is no way to run ahead of the timer or clear the mission early. It moves when your base moves.

R&D Department Level 45 rewards

Reward Amount
100K Dilithium Token 70
8 Hour Speed Up 60

Seventy tokens is 7 million Dilithium once you open them all. Each token releases 100,000 Dilithium from the Resources tab of your inventory, which means the balance lands when you decide it lands rather than the second the mission ticks over. Dilithium at this stage goes into research, ship building, and the Dilithium-hungry mid-game upgrades, so it rarely sits unspent for long.

The 60 8 Hour Speed Ups come to 480 hours of job time if you chain them end to end. Speed ups cut the time left on a job, and twenty days of them is a serious block to be holding while your build and research timers are climbing. Completing this mission also opens the next part of the chain.

Tips

Leave the tokens stacked until you have something to spend on. They convert on demand, so opening all 70 at once only moves the Dilithium somewhere it can be spent by accident. Pull the number a specific research node or build actually asks for.

Point the speed ups at your slowest timers. An 8 hour speed up does far more on a multi-day upgrade than on a job that would have finished by morning, and with 60 of them you can afford to be picky.

Plan the upgrade around your Dilithium and material costs, not around the mission. Nothing here adds a requirement of its own, so the only real work is the R&D Department upgrade you were already going to run. The mission is a payout stapled to a decision you had made anyway.

If you are weighing which building to push next, this is a reasonable tiebreaker. A one-time block of 70 tokens and 60 speed ups arriving right as your base costs get heavier is worth more than the same rewards would be later, and there is no turn-in window to miss.
