Market Research is a Star Trek Fleet Command mission in which you help a Yridian eliminate competition in the information market. It is picked up in Sileo and needs warp 64 to start and to finish. You deal with one rival by force in Mina and pay another 500K Dilithium to leave. The game lists a recommended level of 1. The reward is 190 4★ Uncommon Refined Crystal and a Deep Space Datapad. The Dilithium payment and one 2 million strength fight are the costs.
Market Research objectives
There are five objectives and no choice split:
- Meet with Arlek in Sotavi. Location: Sotavi.
- Find Bak’tel in Mina. Location: Mina.
- Defeat Bak’tel’s bodyguard. Location: Mina (enemy strength ~1,969,977).
- Find Dol’Ren in Zosam. Location: Zosam.
- Donate 500K Dilithium to convince Dol’Ren to leave.
The meeting with Arlek points you at two rivals. Bak’tel in Mina has a bodyguard you have to beat; Dol’Ren in Zosam is persuaded with Dilithium instead. The mission ends once Dol’Ren is paid off.
Where and what warp
The mission is picked up in Sileo and needs warp 64 to start and warp 64 to complete. The route runs Sotavi, Mina and Zosam, and there is no return step, so the mission ends in Zosam once Dol’Ren is paid.
Bak’tel’s bodyguard at about 1.97 million strength, the warp 64 pickup and the 500K Dilithium payment are the real requirements.

Market Research and Awakening both pay a Deep Space Datapad, so running both gives you two. Initiative pays no datapad but a large Parsteel stack.
Tips
Have 500K Dilithium set aside before you reach Zosam. It is the last step, and a short stockpile is the only thing that can stop the mission after the fight is done.
Mina is also where the time loop missions Loop and Learn From Past Mistakes send you, so if you have run those, the trip to Bak’tel follows a route you already know.
Beat the bodyguard at full health. It is the only fight, at about 1.97 million strength, and it comes midway through a route that covers three systems.
