Independent Archives

The Independent Archives is a station building in Star Trek Fleet Command that lowers the resource cost of upgrading buildings across your whole starbase and gives you a free daily claim of Archive Shards. It unlocks at Operations level 16 and upgrades to level 80. For players who lean on Independent-faction ships, it pays back the investment over time, though the highest levels ask for staggering amounts of Parsteel.

What the Independent Archives does

The building runs a set of cost efficiency buffs that apply to every building on your station. Cost efficiency lowers the resources a building upgrade needs, so a higher Archives level means cheaper upgrades everywhere. Three of those buffs cover standard resources, Sigma resources, and raw materials; two more cut the cost of leveling and tiering Chaos Tech. On top of the buffs, the Archives gives you a free daily shard claim that feeds its own upgrade track.

At level 70 the standard Archive Shard claim switches over to Enhanced Archive Shards, the currency the top five levels are built from. The daily claim does not stop; it moves to the enhanced version. All values below are current as of the latest game data and climb with each level, so the ranges show where a buff starts and where it lands near the cap.

Buff Active from Value range
Cost efficiency for Parsteel, Tritanium, Dilithium (all buildings) Level 1 2% at level 1 to 600% by level 60
Cost efficiency for Sigma Parsteel, Tritanium, Dilithium Level 1 2% at level 1 to 1,100% at level 80
Cost efficiency for Crystal, Gas, Ore Level 1 1% at level 1 to 1,000% at level 80
Chaos Tech level-up cost efficiency Level 1 1% at level 1 to 100% by level 40
Chaos Tech tier-up cost efficiency Level 1 1% at level 1 to 100% by level 40
Free daily Archive Shard claim Level 1 50 at level 1 to 400 by level 65
Free daily Enhanced Archive Shard claim Level 70 400 at level 70 to 500 at level 80

How to unlock the Independent Archives

The Independent Archives becomes available once your Operations building reaches level 16. There is no other building requirement to place it. Early upgrades stay gated at Operations 16 through level 15 of the Archives, after which each milestone tier lines up with a matching Operations level: level 20 needs Operations 20, level 30 needs Operations 30, and so on up to Operations 80 for the final level.

Upgrade costs and build times

Upgrades cost Independent Archives Schematics plus Parsteel, and the Parsteel bill grows fast at the top. From level 65 the Parsteel becomes Sigma Parsteel, and the last two levels swap Schematics for Enhanced Independent Archives Schematics. The milestones below are unboosted; research, officers, and boosts cut the real timers.

Level Cost Build time Requires
1 90 Schematics, 800 Parsteel 35s Operations 16
10 180 Schematics, 7,000 Parsteel 1h 50m Operations 16
20 340 Schematics, 144,500 Parsteel 1d 5h Operations 20
30 670 Schematics, 13.26M Parsteel 3d 1h Operations 30
40 1,330 Schematics, 2.866B Parsteel 48d 11h Operations 40
50 2,620 Schematics, 125B Parsteel 830d 2h Operations 50
60 5,190 Schematics, 40.19T Parsteel 1,748d 22h Operations 60
70 10,000 Schematics, 26.97M Σ-Parsteel 538d 4h Operations 70
75 40,000 Enhanced Schematics, 470M Σ-Parsteel 452d 5h Operations 75
80 90,000 Enhanced Schematics, 2.9B Σ-Parsteel 1,855d 18h Operations 80

Taking one Archives from level 1 to level 80 runs 154,310 Independent Archives Schematics, 114.2T Parsteel, 9.678B Sigma Parsteel, and 500,000 Enhanced Independent Archives Schematics. The cumulative unboosted build time is about 25,891 days, which is why almost no one pushes it to the cap without heavy speedups.

How the Independent Archives fits your station

Because the cost efficiency buffs apply to every building, the Archives is one of the few structures that makes the rest of your station cheaper to grow. Early on the percentages are small, but they compound as you level it alongside Operations. The free daily shard claim is the other draw: it trickles in the currency you need to keep the building moving without spending elsewhere. If you run Chaos Tech, the two Chaos cost efficiency buffs reach their 100% ceiling by level 40, so there is a natural stopping point if that is your only reason for building it.

Is the Independent Archives worth upgrading?

For most players, yes, up to a point. The station-wide cost savings and the free shards make the early and middle levels an easy call, and they scale with normal Operations progress. The very top levels are a different story: the Parsteel and Sigma Parsteel costs and the multi-year build times mean levels 70 to 80 are a long-term project rather than a quick win. Level it steadily, and stop where the returns stop matching your resource income.
