Home Grown Tritanium is a short mining mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, recommended for level 13. You pick it up in Zaurak or Elona, both of which need warp 11, and warp 11 also covers the finish. The whole job is to mine 900 Tritanium for the colony. The reward is 4,000 Parsteel and three K’Bisch shards, which makes it a quick officer pickup for anyone with a mining ship free.
Home Grown Tritanium objectives
The story line reads “Mine 900 Tritanium from local mines for the colony.” There is one objective and no choice split:
- Mine 900 Tritanium.
No system is attached to the objective, so the mission does not tie the mining to a specific location. There is no hostile to defeat, no donation and no return trip listed. Once your ship has mined 900 Tritanium, the objective is done.
Where and what warp
The mission can be accepted in two systems, Zaurak and Elona. Both the start and the finish need warp 11, so any ship that can reach either pickup system can see the mission through.
The recommended level is 13. That is a little above the level 10 recommendation on Fleeing the Nest, the other early Tritanium mining mission that pays K’Bisch shards.

The three K’Bisch shards are the part of this reward you cannot produce yourself. The 4,000 Parsteel is a modest top-up at level 13, while the shards go toward K’Bisch. No follow-on mission is unlocked by this one, so Home Grown Tritanium stands on its own rather than opening a chain.
Home Grown Tritanium and Fleeing the Nest compared
Both missions ask you to mine Tritanium and both pay three K’Bisch shards, so they make a natural pair for anyone collecting that officer.

Home Grown Tritanium asks for three times as much Tritanium and a slightly longer warp, and it swaps the Officer XP and small Tritanium payout for 4,000 Parsteel. It also has no return-to-station step. If you want the six K’Bisch shards from both, Fleeing the Nest is the easier one to clear first.
Tips
Use a mining ship. The objective is pure mining with no fight attached, so there is no reason to tie up a combat hull on it.
Accept it from whichever pickup system is closer. Zaurak and Elona both need warp 11, so the choice between them comes down to your route.
Run it when you are mining Tritanium anyway. The objective is the same work you would do for upgrades, and the mission adds 4,000 Parsteel and the K’Bisch shards on top. Other missions at this level are listed on the mission guide.
