The early generator Missionen all pay in the low hundreds of Tritanium. The reward only becomes large much later, as the level 22 mission shows.
Tips
Upgrade straight away. At 1,000 Parsteel and two and a half minutes of base build time, level 4 is cheap, and the 160 Tritanium reward covers part of the next Tritanium costs you will meet.
Keep your generators level with each other. Tritanium Generator B unlocks at Operations 7 and has its own set of missions, so upgrading both in step clears two missions for similar effort.
