Quantum Slipstream Drive is an Epic Forbidden Tech built for offense. At full investment it raises critical hit chance by 20%, cuts an opponent’s shield mitigation by up to 25% each round, adds up to 4,000% base ship health, and stretches base warp range by 15%. The later buffs only appear at higher tiers, so this is a long-term project piece rather than something you feel right after unlocking it.
What Quantum Slipstream Drive does
The piece carries four buffs, and they arrive in stages. Warp range is active from the moment you unlock it. Critical hit chance comes online at tier 3, the shield mitigation reduction at tier 6, and the base ship health bonus at tier 8. That last one is the reason players chase this piece: 4,000% base SHP at max tier and level is the largest number on the card by a wide margin.
| Buff | Unlocks at tier | Unlock value | Max value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Increases base Warp Range | 1 | 1% | 15% |
| Increases Critical Hit Chance | 3 | 1% | 20% |
| Decreases opponent’s Shield Mitigation every round (Cumulative) | 6 | 1% | 25% |
| Increases base SHP | 8 | 400% | 4,000% |
Values are current as of the latest game data. The shield mitigation effect is cumulative, meaning it stacks as the fight goes on, so it does more in a long slugfest than in a quick two-round kill. Paired with the critical hit chance, the two combat buffs work in the same direction: more of your hits land hard, and more of the damage gets through.
How to get Quantum Slipstream Drive
Forbidden Tech is unlocked in the Forbidden Tech refinery, not bought as a finished item. For an Epic piece like this one you need Epic Forbidden Fragments, which come from Q’s Trials and from special rewards. Feed those fragments into the refinery to unlock the tech.
Unlocking the piece is only half of it. You also need a free Forbidden Tech slot on the ship you want to run it on, and slots are opened with Forbidden Tech Fusion Rods. Fusion Rods also let you pull a piece back off a ship if you change your mind, and you get them from the refinery and the store. If you end up with excess Forbidden Tech parts you do not need, they convert into Forbidden Tech Credit Pieces, which exchange for Forbidden Tech Credits in the refinery.
Upgrading Quantum Slipstream Drive
Two separate tracks move this piece forward. Tiers raise the level cap and switch on the buffs listed above at tiers 3, 6, and 8, and they cost Forbidden Tech Reactors plus Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst. Levels scale the values inside each buff up to the current cap, and they cost Reactors plus Forbidden Tech Protomatter. You need both: a high tier with low levels unlocks buffs that are barely doing anything, and a maxed level at a low tier leaves the best buffs switched off entirely.
| Ebene | Level cap | Kosten |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | Starting tier, no cost |
| 7 | 35 | 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 9,900 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
| 12 | 60 | 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 11,500 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
Taking the piece from tier 1 to tier 12 costs 352 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 161,550 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Taking it from level 2 to level 60 costs 1,856 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 1,305,350 Forbidden Tech Protomatter. Reactors are the shared bottleneck across both tracks, and they come from Daily Goals and the store. Upgrade attempts are not guaranteed, which is what Probability Devices are for: they raise your upgrade chances, and you pick them up as rewards and in the store.
Best ships and uses for Quantum Slipstream Drive
This is an offense piece, so it belongs on whatever ship does your fighting rather than on a miner or a survey ship. The critical hit chance and the round-by-round shield mitigation reduction both reward sustained combat, which points at player versus player fights, armada ships, and heavy hostile grinding. The base SHP bonus at tier 8 and up makes the same ship much harder to kill, so a battleship or any hull you expect to trade blows for several rounds gets the most out of it. The warp range bonus is a side benefit that helps the ship reach further systems without a dedicated warp build.
Quantum Slipstream Drive in Star Trek
The quantum slipstream drive comes from Star Trek: Voyager. Voyager first encountered the technology in “Hope and Fear,” aboard the Dauntless, a ship built as a trap by Arturis, a member of a Delta Quadrant species the Borg designated Species 116. The drive worked on a different principle than warp, folding space in a way closer to Borg transwarp, and it could move a starship far beyond its rated maximum warp. Voyager’s crew later tried to build their own version in “Timeless.” The attempt went badly wrong, and the game’s own description keeps that warning: there are times when it is possible to move too fast.
Is Quantum Slipstream Drive worth it?
Yes, if you are a combat player with the resources to see it through. The buffs that matter sit at tiers 6 and 8, so a half-finished Quantum Slipstream Drive is close to dead weight, and the level-up bill runs past 1.3 million Protomatter. If Forbidden Tech is already part of your routine and you fight more than you mine, this is a strong target. If you are still opening your first slots, cheaper pieces will pay off sooner.
