What [PRO] The Great Teacher does
The headline effect triggers when your FKR ship is attacked while sitting on a Capture Node: it delays the opponent’s weapons for one round. At unlock that is a small chance, but by max tier and level it fires every time, buying you a full round before the enemy can shoot back. Three more buffs stack on as you tier the piece up, and all of them are aimed at other players.
| Buff | Unlocks at tier | Unlock value | Max value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delay opponent’s weapons for 1 round when attacked on a Capture Node | 1 | 5% chance | 100% chance |
| Isolytic Damage vs players | 2 | 60% | 300% |
| Reduce opponent’s Shield Mitigation each round (cumulative) | 6 | 1% | 25% |
| Apex Barrier when attacked on a Capture Node | 8 | 5,000 | 50,000 |
Two of these effects, the weapon delay and the Apex Barrier, switch off if Tal is on the bridge, and the Shield Mitigation reduction does not apply during Station combat. Every buff needs the piece installed on an FKR ship to work. Together they make The Great Teacher a defensive tool that punishes anyone who attacks you while you hold a node.
How to get [PRO] The Great Teacher
The Great Teacher unlocks in the Forbidden Tech refinery. You spend Forbidden Fragments of the matching rarity to unlock the piece, and Forbidden Tech Fusion Rods to open the Forbidden Tech slot on your ship. Fusion Rods also let you remove a piece from a ship later. Fragments come from Q’s Trials and special rewards, while Fusion Rods come from the refinery and the store. There is no separate purchase path in the data beyond these refinery currencies, so plan your progress around Q’s Trials and whatever store stock you can pick up.
Upgrading [PRO] The Great Teacher
Tiers and levels do different jobs. Tiering the piece up raises its level cap and unlocks the later buffs at the tiers shown above, while leveling scales each buff’s value toward its maximum. You raise tiers with Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalysts and levels with Prototype Tech Protomatter.
| Ebene | Level cap | Kosten |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | Starting tier |
| 7 | 35 | 4,000 Rare Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
| 12 | 60 | 4,125 Epic Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
Reaching max tier costs 24,800 Rare and 9,075 Epic Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Leveling all the way to 60 costs 815,050 Epic and 368,000 Rare Prototype Tech Protomatter. That is a long haul, so most players tier it far enough to unlock the buffs they care about and level it up over time.
Best ships and uses for [PRO] The Great Teacher
This is an offense piece with a narrow, specific home: an FKR ship you take into Capture Node and territory combat against other players. Every buff reads “vs players” or triggers on a Capture Node, so it does nothing for mining, hostiles, or armadas. Put it on the FKR ship you defend nodes with, and keep Tal off that bridge, since his presence turns off the weapon delay and the Apex Barrier. If you are not fighting other players over territory, this piece will sit idle.
[PRO] The Great Teacher in Star Trek
The Great Teacher comes from the original series episode “Spock’s Brain.” On Sigma Draconis VI, a long-extinct race called the Builders left behind machines their descendants no longer understood, including a helmet that could pour complex knowledge straight into the wearer’s mind. The surviving Eymorgs and Morgs used it only in short bursts to keep their underground complex running. In 2268 they used it to gain the surgical skill to steal Spock’s brain and wire it into their failing Controller. Doctor McCoy later put the helmet on himself and used that borrowed knowledge to return Spock’s brain to his body.
Is [PRO] The Great Teacher worth it?
Chase it if you are an active PvP player running FKR ships and fighting over Capture Nodes, where a guaranteed weapon delay and 300% Isolytic Damage against other players can swing a defense. It is a heavy investment in catalysts and protomatter for a reward that only shows up in territory combat, so miners, PvE grinders, and casual players can leave it alone.
